Hi. I'm testing video tutorials recording, and going to tell about the "Relation Toolbox" plugin
and why it is better than standard relation editing tools.
Installation is easy: setting panel, plugins tab
and somewhere near the middle - reltoolbox.
I also recommend installing UtilsPlugin2.
Let's take this St.Petersburg fragment.
The big list of all relations is useless
so we remove this panel, and add Relation Toolbox instead.
Its button looks like a cog with a pencil.
The main principle of this plugin is a chosen relation.
Let's find, for example, a tram route number six.
Here is "Find" button, where you can browse the list,
but it is easier to just click the rails and see the tram route we're looking for.
The chosen relation is highlighted, and we can do anything with it.
The buttons are in the topmost row. For example, this is removal...
which turns into an inclusion
this is an member role chooser,
downloading incomplete members (those are large),
and the editor window, which is needed very rarely,
and is useful only for sorting member ways.
To edit relation tags,
Click on its title.
If a member is selected, click while holding Ctrl.
Now about creating relations.
Recently I've rode along the road and made some photos.
In particular, the photo of...
those signs.
Let's add them on the map.
Signs in OSM are mapped with a simple relation destination_sign
on three objects: from where, to where and the intersection.
Click "Create relation" and choose "destination_sign".
And in tags...
Selecting it with double-click (or click on the title) and adding
destination = Ugly
and distance = 1.2 km.
Now for the roles:
from where were we going,
then "to"
and intersection.
To create the second sign,
it's enough to duplicate the relation and fix its tags.
It would be "Molodi", 6 km.
All done, now we have two destination signs.
Pop-up menu...
can be opened not only for chosen relation, but for any from the list.
Let's browse through it.
Firstly, this selects all relation members.
Selecting a relation is useful when you need to add a relation into another relation.
Duplication we've just seen, removal - it's obvious.
and downloading parents of all relation members:
it's the same as selecting all its members
and clicking File, Download parent objects.
The plugin is especially useful when working with multipolygons.
Let's add Bing imagery
Take this place and paint the nature.
Here is a field.
Adding a forest
and another piece of forest.
To split the field contour,
we click on the adjacent forest and select "More tools",
"Split adjacent ways".
This is a part of UtilsPlugin2.
Then do the same for the second forest.
Now we can create multipolygons.
Selecting all fragments of the field
and clicking "Create multipolygon".
It is immediately selected, and we can add tags.
So...
this is a forest
and this is a forest.
We've got three multipolygons:
One for a field and two for a forest.
Now let's assume this sparse forest is a scrub.
Here.
First of all, we need to remove forest.
Let's select those two...
We need to split them first,
Then select both ways.
All done, there's nothing here.
Now creating...
a scrub.
Done.
All roles for multipolygon members are chosen automatically.
Right click on multipolygon creating button opens the settings.
We're looking at "move tags from contour to relation" line.
For example, we had a closed way of a field
and we want to make a mutipolygon out of it.
It's simple: one click — and we have correct multipolygon, there's nothing left on the way.
Finally, with this plugin it is very easy to make administrative boundaries:
there is a setting for that.
But we'll leave it for another time. Thanks.
