Heston is in the MasterChef kitchen
and not just for one challenge, either.
He is here for a whole week!
Oh! I'm so jealous of this year's contestants.
Now, Heston is known around the world
for combining his love of science and food.
It does seem as though Rishi, who's also a scientist,
might have the advantage coming into Heston Week.
But the pressure is certainly on as three teams have to work together
to recreate Heston's Jubilee Trifle.
Now, of course, this isn't an ordinary trifle.
This is Heston Blumenthal.
He's the master of experimentation and this trifle is no exception.
It's loaded with things like liquid nitrogen
and all kinds of crazy, wacky things
which really does suit Rishi's style of cooking
'cause he's quite experimental.
However, it doesn't so much suit Noelene's style of cooking.
She prefers much more traditional methods.
Now, Rishi automatically nominates himself
as the leader of the Yellow team
and he's working alongside Heston fan girl Christina
and Heston fan boy Daniel.
Now, it does seem as though everyone is fans of Heston,
although, I must say, Noelene doesn't seem too impressed
and she even makes a cheeky suggestion
to improve Heston's recipe.
But I have a feeling that Noelene just hasn't read the recipe properly.
Now, I am surprised, however, that dessert queen Lucy
serves up the worst trifle of the day
with her team members, Samira and Emma.
I would have thought that she would have put herself forward
and led her team to victory.
But instead, that was Rishi's role.
He did such an awesome job with the Yellow team
and they are going in to tomorrow's Immunity Challenge
and I'll give you one guess who they're cooking against.
Yep! You guessed it. They're cooking against Heston.
And they each have a chance to win an Immunity Pin
if they can cook a dish better than Heston.
Fat chance!
But to even things up a little bit,
Heston has to cook three dishes in 90 minutes
where the contestants only have to cook one dish each in 90 minutes.
Now, coming into this challenge,
I would have thought that Rishi would be the person to beat.
But Daniel has definitely created the most inventive dish
and also really quite complex.
It's a 63-degree egg with mushroom custard and parmesan chips.
And he even gets all Heston-y by putting it in a jar
filled with smoke to serve it.
It really is an impressive dish
and Daniel seems to be getting stronger and stronger.
Whereas Rishi, well, I'm not sure what happened to him.
He decides to make a snowman inspired by Rene Redzepi's snowman dessert
from MasterChef season 3.
Although it looks more like a disaster.
And to be honest,
it suggests that Rishi really is struggling with desserts
and this might be his undoing in the end.
Now, naturally, Heston does come up trumps with all three dishes,
proving that, yes, he is one of the best chefs in the world
and, you know, his reputation is still intact.
However, there is a surprise for Daniel in store.
As he's cooked the best dish of the day,
he gets to skip tomorrow's team challenge
and instead gets to hang out with Heston
as his right-hand man all day and he gets straight through to the Top 8.
Just quietly, I think that seems like a better prize than the Immunity Pin.
This week's team challenge is a Heston inspired medieval feast
featuring Heston's Edible Garden as the centrepiece
and the contestants' own creations using poultry.
Now, Noelene is rapt that she gets to cook with bird
because it complements her rustic style of cooking.
She doesn't have to worry about being too scientific.
So Noelene and Samira take charge of the Blue Team's poultry
and they decide to keep it simple
by just roasting and stuffing the whole birds.
Although that is a little bit risky because of the short timeframe
and then turkey, specially, needs to be cooked through properly.
And even Heston questions the need to stuff the bird.
But of course Noelene doesn't listen!
Rishi also shows his stubborn side
by making the Blue Team make 5.5 kilos of mayonnaise,
even though they already have mayonnaise supplied for them,
which does put the Blue Team behind a little bit also.
Now, the Red Team, which is Lynton, Christina, Lucy and Emma,
decide they want to be more technical in this challenge
so they decide on making a squab pie with a puff pastry lid
and also chicken ballotines,
which, of course, is more time consuming
and they also struggle to get their feast up on time.
However, the Blue and the Red Team's feasts do look good,
but the Blue Team's is so much more impressive.
However, when Heston cuts into that turkey,
to Noelene's shock horror, the turkey is raw
and this really is inexcusable and the whole Blue Team face elimination.
The contestants have been hanging out with Heston all week
and they've managed to pick up a few tricks of the trade along the way.
So this week's Elimination Challenge, for Noelene, Kelty, Samira and Rishi,
they have to produce a dish
that shows imagination, theatre and surprise,
just like one of Heston's dishes.
Now, straight off the bat, Noelene seems to struggle with this concept.
Scientific cooking just isn't really her thing.
But she decides to make a fish head curry
and frozen curry balls made out of liquid nitrogen to go with the dish.
But she just doesn't seem to find her groove.
Now, Samira has a great idea in theory - a Middle Eastern volcano.
But after a few failed attempts,
she decides to scrap the idea completely
and two thirds of the way into the challenge,
she creates a whole new dish.
But she succeeds and this is showing
that Samira is getting really quite good at thinking on her feet.
Rishi, he makes savoury looking dumplings that taste sweet
and they're a hit.
And so is Kelty's Hot Toddy inspired tart.
Even though he makes a mistake by forgetting the ice-cream,
he turns this around into a positive
by making the liquid nitrogen ice-cream in front of the judges,
creating a whole lot of theatre.
It's very spectacular and very Kelty as he sold the idea so well.
But in the end, it's Noelene's dish
that just lacks a little bit of magical quality
and in the end, it sends her home.
But it's been great getting to know Noelene.
I think that you've done so well
and what a shame that you miss out on the Top 8
because next week the Top 8 are heading to Dubai!
It just seems to be getting bigger and better for these guys.
