HI! This is Karen Quinn-Wisniewski at the CCBC library and I want to show you how
to look up a book in the library catalog.
I'm on the library home page which is library.ccbcmd.edu
and right here in this box is our library catalog and I can tell because I'm
looking for books. If i went to this tab I'd look for journals or periodicals
by title
and if I looked at this tab I'd look for reserves. But I'm in the book catalog
search box and so I'm going to look up a topic: an the topic is 'greek
mythology.'
And from the library catalog page
of all the greek mythology books I can now sort it down to what I really
want or maybe what campus I really want
So i can see I've got quite a few... a hundred ninety two under the topic
"greek mythology"
but let's see I only -- on the right here -- only want what Essex has
or only what Catonsville has or only
what Dundalk has so I can narrow that down to start
I only what what's on
the campus. A particular campus. So now I've narrowed it down to
only at Essex and I can see a number of books on the shelf.
I can tell they're on the shelf because of this. It says "check shelves"
Whereas this is due ...
and somebody looks like they haven't returned it
and other copies are checked out and they will be returned.
So I make a note of this call number and I go to the shelf
and I find it on the shelf!
Ha! But wait a minute I'm home and I need a book right now and the library is
closed but I still need a book!
I can click ebooks
and now i have a list of
'greek mythology' books but they're ebooks and they're available to me all the
time
So there's a quick way to get to the library catalog a get a book or an ebook.
