My most surprising symptom of pregnancy I think would have to be the sneezing; very big sneezes,
normally two at a time, it's not glamorous in the slightest! And I don't normally suffer
from that, so that's been very surprising. I've spoken to my midwife and my pharmacist
about this and the pharmacist suggested that I could have something called Rhinitis, which
apparently is caused by pregnancy hormones and increased blood volume. Apparently it
can also cause women to snore a lot more, though my husband hasn't told me I have been,
so hopefully I'm not! The pharmacist recommended that I spoke to
my GP, because obviously they can prescribe things to help; I didn't want to go down that
route because I'm a singer, so one thing I have found- being a singer, that's always
helped me is steam inhalation and I do have a plug-in steam inhaler that has really helped
me and relieved the symptoms. My top tip for a more comfortable pregnancy
is, first and foremost, rest -- make sure you're feeling on top form that way. And if
you do have any niggling little symptoms; like sneezing then talk to your GP or your
pharmacist because they will be able to help, and above all else they'll be able to reassure
you.
Hi I'm Gemma Adams; this is my daughter Darcie-Louise, she's two. I'm pregnant with my second pregnancy
with twins. When I was about 18 weeks pregnant my eyes
starting getting dry, and became itchy and sore, and I rubbed them quite a lot, and the
more I rubbed them the sorer they'd get. I never had this in my first pregnancy, so I
wasn't aware this could happen. I spoke to my optician and she said that dryness
in the eyes is quite common during pregnancy, to do with the hormone levels; she said to
try eye drops and reduce my contact lense wear and wear glasses when I can.
When I can I try not to wear eye make up, because if any of the eyeliner or mascara
gets in my eye isn't an irritant, and also if I rub my eyes it will just go all over
my face. My top tip for a more comfortable pregnancy
would be if you do wear contact lenses and get dry eyes, wear your glasses more often,
and if you do get itchy, dry eyes put something cool on them to cool them down.
Hi I'm Lucy Green, I'm 26 weeks pregnant this
week and this is my first baby. At about 20 weeks I started experiencing some
sleep problems, where I found it either difficult to get to sleep at night, or I found I was
waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning unable to get back to sleep.
I've tried a few solutions to help with my sleep problems; obviously when you're pregnant
it's difficult to take medication- even herbal remedies, so one of the things I've tried
is a pregnancy pillow. I found that these did help me sleep- making me have a more comfortable
evening, and I found these really helped me. I talked to my midwife about my sleep problems
and she did say it was a very common symptom during pregnancy, but that it should be manageable
with a few lifestyle changes. My top tip for a more comfortable pregnancy
is to grab a nap when you can and not feel too guilty about it, to establish a really
good regular bedtime routine, try not to be tempted to take your phone or ipad up to bed
-- try reading a book instead. I found these really helped me to relax and get my sleep
patterns back in order.
