Hey, if you're gonna keep any kind of livestock, poultry or even certain pets, you need to
make sure that you have the predators under control. Carroll, it's quite a herd of goats
you got here. Yeah, we're proud of them. Look at them, they're proud to eat. They're loving
this alfalfa. Well, I changed them over form sack feed to alfalfa and they seem to be doing
a whole lot better. So, Max, how's he he working out for you? He seems to be -- everything
under control. We had all kinds of problems with two or three other dogs. And then when
we got Max, by the time he was 6-months-old, we didn't have any problems. Really? He takes
of the -- I used to have possums, *** come and got my Peacocks, my chickens and all that.
And he can get around those and I don't have that problem anymore. Really? Carroll, not
only is he taking care of these goats and watching them, he's taking care of the fowl
as well. Yeah, that was my extra benefit. Because when I got him, I just wanted him
to take care of the coyotes. Well, it's amazing how they bond with the animals and then they
protect them for their whole lives. Yeah, that's right. With their lives. Yeah, that's
right. I have to separate him when I work the goats. I see. He doesn't… He's that
protective of them. Yes, yes, yes. So I guess the predators sensed that there is a major
force here in the way of Max or a dog, and they stay away. And then, of course, if they
come in range, he'll chase them and catch them. Well, he does most of his sleeping in
the day. And at nights, you'll hear him on the perimeters. And the goats will be here
usually. They'll be right here where I feed them most of the time before they'll bed down
for the night. How long have you had him? He's a four or five-year-old. I'm really not
sure. We got him when he was a puppy. Yep, so when did his instincts kick in to protect
all these animals? Well, he was born in a goat pen. And when we got him, he was kinda
wild. Yeah. And my grandkids petted him and tried to settle him down a little. I've never
petted him. And we just put him out here with the -- I put him in a small pen with some
little baby goats when he was just a puppy. And the time he was 6-months-old, our problems
were solved. The goats are really family to him. Yes, yes they are. He bonded with them.
Yes, yes. That's great. Would you recommend Anatolians to anybody? Anybody, yes. Just
don't be mean to them. They're not a vicious dog at all, but they will do their job. Yeah.
They can come across pretty fierce, can't they? Yes, because they're a big dog. So if
you've got some small animals that need to be protected from all those predators out
there, you might think about a dog to help you out. And more specifically, you might
even look into those Anatolian Shepherds. If you're enjoying these Farm Raised segments,
check in with us regularly. Okay, go on over to Max. There you go.
