Hello I am Rue McClanahan with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Every year
in the US alone close to 100 million pigs are killed in factory farms and slaughter
houses. Recently PETA went undercover at SeaBoard farms the third largest pig farm in North
America. The following disturbing scenes are some of what out investigator found. Daily
pigs get beaten, neglected and cruelly killed. Here the farm manager looms over this pig
brandishing a metal gate rod. Here again we see the farm manager cruelly killing pigs
with a gate rod. A method condemned even by the industrys own American Association of
Swine Practitioners. Here a farm worker shoots a pig behind the ear with a bolt gun, another
practice condemned by experts, because the bolt penetrates the pigs jaw, but does not
render her unconscious. She lies injured and unable to stand while dying pigs thrash around
her. Killing methods on the farm are unregulated. (Horrible screams)
Workers follow the leads of managers and also beat the animals all the time.
(Pigs screams) Here a young frail pig struggles for his life.
The manager decided this pig was too small and must be killed. Fearful and grasping for
breath the young animals tries to escape while the manager and another worker stand on him,
ignoring his suffering Worker: C’mon, c’mon, piece of ***.
These workers are considered runts the workers slams them into the concrete floor, this practice
called thumping is condemned for pigs this size. The men also haphazardly beat the pigs
with a hammer. Horrible as it is being cruelly killed is not the worst thing that happens
to pigs on a factory farm. Sick pigs are moved into pens and often simply left to die without
a drop of food or water. During out investigators time on the farm individual veterinary care
was never provided for animals on the farm. No matter what. And the farm manager admitted
that the animals were not treated but left to die slowly of their illness or injuries.
This pig cannot walk up the steep ramp to the truck and shivers in the wind. Too weak
even to stand, she will be killed along with many others on this day.
Please remember that pig, the next time you are at a supermarket or choosing a meal from
a restaurant menu remember all these pigs and choose vegetarian. The cruelty will stop
only when we stop contributing to it. To find out more about this case and what you can
