A machinist in the Southern part of Iceland has begun to poke holes
through the Icelandic Króna for use as washers in his business
He says washers have become too expensive
making it worthwile to poke holes through the Króna
The machinist got special permission from the Central Bank
to subject the Króna to this treatment
Magnús Hlynur Hreiðarsson looked into the matter
Ingvar Guðni's workshop is located at Vatnsendi farm in Flóahreppur
his workshop is in an old barracks and he always has enough to do
He spends his days poking holes through the Icelandic Króna
in order to produce washers
Ingvar Guðni says the price of washers is appalling
a washer can cost three to six Icelandic Krónur
I was at the hardware store, buying washers
I ran through my pockets, and found an Icelandic Króna
By poking a hole through it, I could multiply its value
At the moment I make the washers in a primitive way
but I might set up a machine that makes them automatically
There are no problems in poking the holes through the Króna?
Very simple, It's just metal
Where do you get all these Krónur?
I just get them from the Bank
They still have some
Ingvar Guðni decided to contact the Central Bank
before he started his production
to ensure wasn't doing anything illegal
I contacted them and asked if they had any objections
I asked if I could do as I pleased with my own Krónur
They said there was nothing standing in my way
But what does Ingvar Guðni intend to do with the washers?
At the moment I use them myself, we always need washers
I'm checking how they work out
Later, I may wery well sell them to hardware stores
