New Year's Day, 2013, marked the beginning of the five hundred year
anniversary of European exploration on Florida's shores. In honor of this
momentous occasion, Quicksilver, Eeam Rider, and Mother Ocean's CEO, Justin
Riney, embarked on a modern-day exploration of Florida's coastline
waterways and aquatic ecosystems in a year long journey called
Expedition Florida 500.
Riney will traverse the entire state throughout 2013.
The main focus of the expedition is to highlight the importance of stewardship
efforts as they relate to the ocean, coastlines, and inland waterways, while also
emphasizing Florida's amazing culture and history.
Alrighty, you got 365 days here.
I'm, umm. I'm excited.
There were a lot of, a lot
stress and nerves coming up into this point, just
to get everything prepared. You know now that everything's done,
once I'm on the water all that stuff just gets washed away.
We've got such a unique opportunity here to start the project in Pensacola, where there's
just so much history and culture here. And a great community of paddlers.
We're dedicating a day to exploring Pensacola Bay.
And we've got a local historian that's going to join us via boat, as well.
We're going to highlight all the special little areas on the way, so..
You know, we have for the schedule, I have 23 specific
days that are kind of extra, to allocate
within, you know, certain parts of the state, that we feel are appropriate
to spend more time at. And this was one of those days.
Day two you were spending the entire day just exploring the history of Pensacola.
From Viva Florida 500,
the State Library and Archives, and Florida Memory, who I know you're going to
be keeping in touch with all along the way... Thanks so much and good luck.
Thank you so much and I appreciate all your support.
