Today we're going to learn "La canciόn de los días" or "The Song of the Days".
This is a days of the week song. It's very easy, but it's definitely going to help you
memorize those days of the week a lot quicker than you would if you just memorized them
the old fashion way. Before we get started, you need to first know
there's a big difference between calendars that we use here in the U.S. versus calendars
that are used in many Spanish-speaking countries, like España or México.
In the United States, our calendars run from Sunday through Saturday.
But if you look at this, we have a Spanish calendar here. And its starting day is Monday,
and it goes through Sunday. So it's Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Sunday. I know that seems crazy at first, but I really
like the idea of that. Here's why: We call Saturday and Sunday our "weekend".
And on this calendar Saturday and Sunday really are the weekend. So, it kind of makes sense.
I like that idea a lot. With that in mind, we are going to learn the
days of the week. The song starts with Monday because that's when the calendar starts.
So let's run through how to pronounce these quickly: Monday is "lunes". Tuesday is "martes".
Wednesday is "miércoles". Thursday is "jueves". Friday is "viernes". Saturday is "sábado".
Sunday is "domingo". And then "la semana" is how we're going to end our song, and it
just means "the week". So the song goes to the tune of the "Adam's
Family". If you've never heard it before, it goes like this: (Sings the tune of the
song) I'll sing it in English first so you can understand
what's going on in the song, and then we'll practice in Spanish.
So, it goes like this: (singing in the tune of the "Adam's Family" theme song: Monday
and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sunday, the week! duh na na
na, *snap* *snap*, duh na na na, *snap* *snap*, duh na na na, duh na na na, duh na na na,
*snap* snap* Alright, so in Spanish it goes like this:
lunes y martes, miércoles y jueves, viernes y sábado, domingo, la semana! duh na na na,
*snap* *snap*, duh na na na, *snap* *snap*, duh na na na, duh na na na, duh na na na,
*snap* snap* Lunes y martes, miércoles y jueves, viernes
y sábado, domingo, la semana! duh na na na, *snap* *snap*. And there you have it.
