Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of a band that is located on the bottom of your
foot. The band is triangular-shaped and attaches from your heel bone and goes forward to the
ball of your foot. When excessive tension is placed on the plantar fascia, it becomes
inflamed. Certain foot conditions can result in plantar fasciitis.
The symptoms of plantar fasciitis are typically pain, intense stabbing pain in the bottom
of your heel on initial weight bearing in the morning or after extended periods of rest.
Typically, after you get up and take a few steps, the pain starts to gradually subside,
but as the day goes on, the pain returns.
Plantar fasciitis is more common in men than in women. It's more common in obese patients.
It's more common in people who have flat feet, although people with high arches can also
get it. It's common due to improper stretching and exercising and can also be caused by an
injury.
The good news is plantar fasciitis responds very well to conservative therapy with over
90% of patients getting relief with conservative means alone.
