An Embedded Librarian is a librarian that is integrated to an online class for a period
of time to support the students in their research process. Typically, the librarian will be
added to an online course as a teaching assistant for one week.
PGCC Library has increased the number of electronic resources that can be accessed remotely. But
having the resources is not enough. Many students have difficulties and need help not only accessing
resources remotely but knowing what resources and services are available to them. As an
Embedded Librarian, I can help you with your research questions on Blackboard.
Usually instructors set up a thread in their Discussion Board, where students have a place
to ask their questions and participate in the activities. This is the place where the
Embedded Librarian shares study guides, tutorials, videos, and other materials with the students.
I also have virtual office hours every week. During this time you can ask questions using
instant messaging using Blackboard Collaborate. It saves time for the students. You can get
all the help students get in the library during a face to face library class or an appointment
with a reference librarian. You can ask them from home, while you are working on your assignments.
I can help you with choosing sources, finding articles in the databases, evaluating what
you find and putting together your bibliography with proper citations.
