When I was a freshman, my dining plan was pretty simple - unlimited, eat all you can!
So I'd go to the dining hall and eat as much and as many times as I wanted.
What made it convenient was that "Terrace" - that's today's FFC - was right next to
my dorm.
When I moved into McCoy my sophomore year, I got a dining dollar only plan.
With my dining dollars, I had to make some real choices about my diet.
Very soon I discovered that the brand new Charles Street Market was always stocked with
a fresh supply of mouth-watering Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
Never tried it before? Please do because it's amazing.
Now if you're health conscious, you know that ice cream, no matter how delicious it is,
is supposed to be enjoyed in relatively small quantities.
In fact, one pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream is supposed to have four servings in it.
Well, I never paid any attention to those suggested serving sizes. Who does?
I used to eat three or four pints of Ben and Jerry's a week, religiously, all by myself!
Ben and Jerry's comforting ice cream sustained me through a long, arduous sophomore year.
I never worried about the cost because all I had to do was swipe a card.
However, by the end of the year, my seemingly endless supply of dining dollars had dwindled,
and I was forced to hold myself back from enjoying the luxury of Ben and Jerry's delicious
ice cream, even though I really wanted it. I still salivate when I pass the Ben and Jerry's
as I'm walking down the grocery store aisle. But now, I don't have to stop and think about
which flavor I should enjoy tonight.
I'm not sure about a freshman fifteen, but if you hear about a sophomore twenty, you
know who pioneered it.
My name is Dan Knorr, and I graduated in 2009.
