Having been in medical school and seeing this types of relationships that people
make with their physicians and knowing that I can do that too . . yeah I was sold.
I did my medicine clerkship at the Miriam hospital and it's organized by this
legendary woman named Beth Gentilesco. She used to tell us to sweat the small
stuff and she meant medically like every lab result matters for your patient and
what their heart rate is every morning actually matters.
My first her doctoral
mentor, I was very lucky to be paired with a breast surgeon named Doreen Wiggins.
She told me to not self select and I thought that was some of the most
valuable advice I've gotten because you know surgery, medicine they're all very
competitive fields and someone else will always be there to take you out but you
should never take yourself out of the running. And you should always put
yourself out there and go after something that you might secretly feel
is bigger than you.
My grandma passed away in second year. She had cancer.
It really gave me a lot of insight into the patient perspective, you know, the
families that go through these kind of things. And
I want to go intofamily medicine because I want to treat families and
help people and be there for them.
Traveling around, meeting people from other schools,
you realize how lucky you are to have the people here who support you,
who have your back.
I really feel privileged that I had an institution and
a department that set a really high standard for the kind of training that I
want to get for the next four years.
so I'm holding the red envelope and March 16th
and I'm about to open it I'm feeling . . .
