\pgncont\pgndec\pgnstarts1\pgnrestart Hello. My name is Terry Lawson, and I'm an
attorney in Kansas City, Missouri. One of the areas I focus in is debt collector harassment,
especially, of course, how to prevent it.\par \par One of the biggest things I see from
potential clients in this area is that the big concern they have is constant calls from
a debt collector. The calls never cease. That's something that clearly we can help with. The
law is clear. A federal law called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act allows you to
prevent these sorts of calls to your home or to your work place and the steps are simple.\par
\par All you need to do, if you're receiving calls at home, is do a letter in writing,
either by certified mail or by fax, and then tell that debt collector in the letter that
you do not wish to be contacted. Once the letter is received, it is illegal for that
debt collector to call you. It couldn't be more simple.\par \par The second thing you
can handle is calls at work. With a call at work, you don't even need to write a letter.
You simply need to tell them on the phone when they call you at work, I cannot receive
calls at my place of employment. My employer doesn't allow it. And the law is clear. Once
that is told to the debt collector, the debt collector cannot continue to call the place
of employment. Any more calls to your work place are a violation of the law.\par \par
I can help you end these calls. If you receive debt collector calls at any time, at home
or at work and you need help with that, give me a call. Thank you.}
