(Kristen: This one is interesting because we don't get a lot of questions
about past Dirty Jobs episodes...but uh there's a lot of street noise here.)
MR: That's the way it is.
Yep, San Francisco rush hour
trolley cars
blaring by...trucks...hippies.
(Kristen: Maybe this will be the last one right now.
Um... Brian Payone
asks, When you were chipping paint in the metal bowls of that bridge did you have
a moment of panic being that enclosed?") MR: Yes.
Yes that was the
was the Mackinaw bBridge
that was great Dirty Job
because it uh... it..it encapsulated two great phobias
vertigo or what is that agoraphobia I think.
Or is that fear of places? Acrophobia.
Point is if you have a fear of heights or a fear of tight spaces
that was a very bad day to be ah
to be me.
Fortunately I do really
fear either of those two things but
the contrast was was jarring six hundred eighty feet up over the Straights
of Mackinaw to changing light bulbs on that little cable
it was exciting
followed by
literally upside down
in a little steel coffin
inside the banes supporting the tower
painting the inside of that things so it doesn't rust from the inside out.
The air is no good down there
the paint fumes are deadly, you are
contorted up like one of those
boneless freaks from Cirque du Soleil and you're painting
upside down
while your crew is trying to shoot the whole thing. So...yes
yes is my answer
to that. Yes. (Kristen: Alright. Thank you for answering...) It's been my pleasure Kristen
come by anytime
with your questions
I will sit here as best I can and answer them.
(Kristen: Thank you.) Don't make me look stupid. (Kristen: Alright. I'll work on that.) Alright.
