My name is Arturo Novelo,
I was born in Merida Yucatan in the Santiago neighborhood.
My first memories are from the mid 60's,
when Merida was still a small province city.
When my father built the house on 74th street between 43rd street,
the streets were not paved in those days.
The frogs used to serenade us during rainy nights,
the dragonfly, visited the poodles that formed on the streets,
until the sun dried the water that had turn green by being there for many days.
My clearest memories are from the late 60's.
My grandmother's house,
the Santiago's fair,
the Nicolas Bravo school,
el Centenario Zoo
and of course my friends and all those games that we used to play on the street,
and now nobody plays anymore.
One of the last memories I have of my childhood in Merida,
is having watched on television
when the United states put a man on the moon.
Two years after that event, my mom took her six kids to visit my dad to the United States,
and we never came back!
I think that because I never said "Good Bye" to my city,
in my heart I always wanted to come back home,
to my beautiful Merida.
