>> I am a professor at the University of Akron
in Speech Language Pathology
but I direct the Auditory Verbal Clinic for children
with hearing loss and I have
to admit the most exciting part is working with families
of children with hearing loss because 95% of children
who are deaf or hard of hearing are born to hearing families
and they have a desire for their children to listen and speak
and the exciting part is that that can happen
for their children now given technology
and early intervention and the other aspect I love is being
able to train our youth, our future for tomorrow
and teach them to carry the torch of pioneers that were
in the field of ASHA and AG Bell
and that's been very exciting for me and I hope to continue
to do that even beyond retirement.
I've been very fortunate to not only be a member of ASHA
but to alter people's lives, to work with families,
its been such an honor and how many people can say they
absolutely love their job during these times?
I can say that.
