>>BRYAN: First of All I just want to thank everybody for coming out tonight
BRYAN: When I joined Folsom Trail Runners about 4 years ago it was about two weeks after Diane started it.
DIANE: Two weeks after I started it
BRYAN: I wasn't a runner. DIANE: He wasn't a runner.
BRYAN: I started mountain biking But I wanted to try running
BRYAN: So I tried trail running because I liked mountain biking
BRYAN: So I remember some of the first runs I went on - I just died.
DIANE: He died! [laughing] BRYAN: I died! [laughing]
SCOTT: What happened? DIANE and BRYAN: He/I Died!
BRYAN: I was hurtin' I was like holy crap! DIANE: He was sucking air! BRYAN: Holy crap these people are fast!
BRYAN: But I kept with it. I figured if I could be an assistant organizer it would force me to have to be at events have to improve.
BRYAN: So that was one of the reasons I did it
DIANE: So if you want to become a better runner be an assistant organizer. And you have to show up!
BRYAN: When I started out I said to myself I was like a sss-slogging jogger.
BRYAN: You know my first 10k. David Friedman wasn't here yet. It was in Granite Bay. It was a 10k. And it was a big race for me. In my age group out of 10 people I finished 9th.
BRYAN: So... [APPLAUSE]
BRYAN: Since that time with all the running I've done my running itself has improved where in my age group I try to place. Sometimes I win my age group. One of them I won outright.
BRYAN: My claim to fame It was the paws in the park doggy 5k with Lucy.
BRYAN: WooHoo!! [Applause]
BRYAN: Anyway ... what I liked most about FTRs and being an assistant organizer is it allowed me to bring out my creative side, I love bringing people together and I like organizing things. Sometimes I way too *** and too organized.
BRYAN: But, here I am DIANE: No you're good, no you're good
BRYAN: So.. But I still remember a lot of you here. I remember the first runs that people showed up at. I remember the first time they came and they didn't tell anybody
BRYAN: So I made sure to make it a point that everybody feels welcome especially if it's their first time there.
BRYAN: Since that time I've seen people go from not running over 3-4 miles to they're running 50 miles now. Its just amazing.
BRYAN: I've seen friendships develop and I know they're going to be lifelong. I'll tell ya some the ones that I may have, ya know some of my friends here - I know that they're going to be lifelong friends. And for that ya know, I treasure it.
DIANE: He's the one that started the introductions. And like the first one I went to when Bryan wasn't the organizer I'm like was like we're at an AA meeting. But it was great because then I was like OK this is good
BRYAN: One of my hopes is -- some of the things I'm most proud of as far as events are the Christms light run - so we've had at least three of those, I hope they continue
DIANE: Yeah, Who is going to step up to the plate? BRYAN: Somebody will I know.
BRYAN: The other thing was the night runs.. I kind of started the night trail running and the wolf pack
BRYAN: And the other thing was the TRIS for Fun that I did where you just don't use the clock, take breaks in between, go for a run, do a little cycling, and then go for a kayak or a swim and have some fun.
BRYAN: So hopefully those will continue DIANE: We will in your honor
BRYAN: Haha, Thanks. So that's all I have to say. Thanks again everybody!
