Hi, I'm Karen, for Expert Village. Now I'm going to show you a center zipper installation,
but this time I'll show you on a garment, and I'll also show you if your zipper is faulty,
and you want to remove a zipper and replace it with a new one, this is what you'll do.
Now to remove the original zipper, the faulty zipper, you need a seam ripper like this,
and you're going to just take the seam ripper and get underneath the stitching, the topstitching
of the zipper, and just carefully pick out the stitches. Now, if you break a few of the
stitches there, and then pull, you can see the stitches here. You want to be very careful
that you don't rip your fabric with the seam ripper, so you just want to get underneath
the stitches and you're going to remove all the stitches that are holding the zipper in
place. So, you just pull after you break some stitches, and you just slip the seam ripper
underneath stitches only, and push. This little blade here will cut the stitches and then
you can pull it apart again, and if some of the stitches are tight, you just work at them
little by little until you remove all the stitches around the zipper. So just inside
the garment there will be some stitches also and you want to remove those and you just
carefully get underneath and pull them open. And then here also we want to remove some
stitches to get the zipper out completely. Here, you can see it's sewn - you can just
look and see where it's sewn and remove the stitches until you get the whole zipper out.
It takes a little bit of time, but if you have a nice garment that's still very useable
and it's only got a broken zipper, you can replace the zipper quite easily.
