Sam Wyly: I was a young entrepreneur. I just started my company. I was a computer guy
at IBM and I just started University Computing Company. This was at -- November was our
third month. We just had a dribble of revenue and I read in the Dallas Morning News that
the president was coming to town so I said instantly, I want to watch the parade. They
said the
parade would be Downtown Dallas at noon and come down the Main Street. So I said, Good.
I got to see my bike. I'll schedule my null meeting at 11 so I could watch the parade
as well. I
came out of the bank and tried to get close to the parade but it's such a crowd so I walked
up
to Neiman Marcus, I went out to the third floor of the administrative department and
on my
window, I can see kind of to my right to my left was a great big limo. I focused on Jackie
in her pink
dress and John Connally, the sector Governor who was on the front seat and I stood over
there.
It went by and so I said, I think it'll get to, so I have to turn around, go
downstairs, walk across to the garage and as I was paying my ticket, the cashier was
listening
to the radio and started crying and said the president has been shot. And I said, "No,
no, no" I
then got my car and was just pulling out. When I heard the sirens, I started believing,
went on out to SMU, but we were all just in shock. We could do anything. I went home.
I never watched TV except for a football game. I watched TV just like a zombie for the next
few days just through the whole tragedy.
