The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Adapted from the Fable of Aesop
Retold by Boots S.A. Pastor
(MUSIC)
In the old days in a faraway village,
there was a naughty shepherd boy.
While his sheep grazed in the meadow,
he would climb the trees, sleep under the shade or catch insects.
One day, the shepherd boy got bored tending his flock.
To amuse himself, he ran down the meadow and shouted:
"Wolves! A pack of wolves attacked my sheep!"
The farmers from the nearby fields came to the shepherd boy's rescue
but were dismayed when they did not see any wolf.
The shepherd boy was amused and started laughing at the people.
The farmers could do nothing but leave in disgust.
After a few days, the shephered boy got restless again.
Again, he ran towards the fields, shouting a pack of wolves was once again attacking his flock.
"It's true!
Wolves are attacking my sheep!
Help!"
Once more, the people came to the rescue,
and again they saw no wolves attacking the sheep.
Because he succeeded in fooling the people,
the shepherd boy laughed and laughed.
Then one day in the meadow, a pack of wolves suddenly arrived.
The animals looked hungry and ready to prey on the sheep!
The shepherd boy got very scared.
The shepherd boy ran towards the people who were working in the fields.
"Wolves! Wolves!" he shouted.
"A pack of wolves is attacking my sheep!"
This time, no one came to the shepherd boy's rescue.
The farmers continued tilling in the fields.
They knew the shepherd boy was up to another mischief.
When he returned to the meadow, the shepherd boy saw that the wolves had killed all his sheep.
He regretted what happened.
Now he had no more sheep to tend to.
Moral Lesson of the Story:
