Second Dose for Children
Hi. I’m Dr. Susan Walsh, Deputy Commissioner with the New Jersey Department of Health and
Senior Services, reminding you that if you haven’t gotten an H1N1 flu shot, now is
the time to get one.
It’s especially important to remember for parents whose children are between 6 months
and 10 years old, to get their second H1N1 vaccine shot.
Children can develop serious complications from the flu. During the H1N1 outbreak, young
children have been especially susceptible to the flu. Children younger than five years
old have higher rates of hospitalization and school age children have had the highest rate
of infection.
Vaccine is the best form of prevention against the complications of H1N1 flu. A second booster
shot given more than 28 days after the first one will give your child the most protection
against H1N1.
There is plenty of H1N1 vaccine available and flu clinics continue to be held throughout
our state.
