Hi, my name is Linda Wooldridge and I'm a home school mom. How do I volunteer as a home
schooler and what, how do I keep track of those records? The first part is, most colleges
now look for volunteer hours. They want to know that your child had experiences outside
of their home school and if they had one, their part time job. So you do want to make
sure that your child is involve in the community. Many students will pick volunteer experiences
related to what they want to do after they graduate from high school. It shows the businesses
or the colleges that they're interested in, that they have experience in their field of
interest. So, if you have a child who wants to be a veterinarian for example, they might
want to volunteer at the zoo or at an aquarium or something that has to do with animals.
If you have a student who is interested in working with children, they might want to
volunteer at their church or, my daughter volunteers with girl scouts, working with
the younger girls. Make sure that you keep track of those hours. In this planner, there's
space right here to keep track of community service hours and I would want to write down
when they did it, what they did and how long they did it for. When you pre-create a transcript
for your high school student, you want to list all of their volunteer hours. Again,
when was the service offered, where was the service offered, what were the doing and how
many hours did they do it? If you have all that information listed, then you will have
a very complete record that any college or organization will be thrilled to look at.
And, you may help your child get the job in their chosen field after they graduate from
high school. I'm Linda Wooldridge and that's how to use volunteering and homeschooling
together and create a successful home school student. Have a wonderful homeschooling day!
