Lots of people think homes security is just about intrusion protection, but adding fire
and heat sensors are crucial to overall home and safety. Since October is national fire
safety month, this week on the FrontPoint Podcast series we’re going to talk about
fire protection and safety. Peter tell me how smoke and heat sensors can
be tied into an overall home security system. Great topic Greg. Glad you brought it up because
we recommend at least one monitored smoke and heat sensor on every system that we sell.
A lot of people already have some kind of smoke detector in their home, probably battery
powered, and that’s great, except that they don’t communicate out of the home. What’s
really important is to have a device that can somehow eventually let the fire department
know so that they can respond. Remember in the case of a fire, every second counts.
Okay so the distinction here is that these are monitored and tell me what that means.
What is a monitored smoke and heat sensors. Well they work just the same way the sensors
do for the intrusion portion of our system like the door window sensors, the motion sensors.
If there is a fire condition it could be smoke heat or some combination, they communicate to the
panel. The panel communicates to the central station they will call you and attempt to
reach you, then they will call the fire department.
