At Rehua Marae last night, a debate was held
between Te Tai Tonga candidates,
but some of the attendees weren't too impressed
with the quality of the debate.
It started in harmony.
But when this General candidate for Labour got up and spoke,
the opposition started.
That was just the beginning of some rigorous banter
between the candidates and the supporters.
All talk!
All looking for someone to blame but the time for that has passed.
The Southern Maori seat candidates continue to be challenged,
but there was one candidate noticeably missing tonight -
Clinton Dearlove is in Southland seeking votes.
Most had already made up their minds in support of Rahui Katene,
but they say it was strengthened by this debate.
She stood with authority, and its clear to see
that she has learnt from the last three years
and has grown into her role.
In the end peace was made,
with everyone now focused on Election Day.
Irena Smith, Te Karere.
