Speed for football is multi-faceted.
At the top level it's about not even inches it's centimetres, millimetres
and that's what can make the big, big difference.
When you see an athlete that is truly explosive, it can be breath-taking.
And it doesn't happen by chance, you know there is a genetic component
but a huge chunk of that is just sheer hard work and determination.
Speed is not really just a linear function.
We look at the ability to accelerate, decelerate.
The faster a guy slows down, is the faster he can get out of that turn and get to the ball.
If we build a really strong foundation of moving well,
we can add the speed on and the load on after that.
To try and be explosive, to try and have speed without having a good frame and a good structure,
you're just going to keep breaking down. You need to have a well-balanced body.
So for me, all the things that they do, that's all getting them ready
for their speed and their activation to train.
