Hello Lancers! I'm Laila Hajjali. It's Friday, February the 28th, and PCC One starts
now!
PCC One. Campus news in a minute.
PCC One is brought to you by the Pasadena City College Transfer Center. Think transfer.
Grab your umbrella because it's raining events up in here this weekend. [Thunder.]
To wrap up Black History Month, PCC's Black Student Alliance will be hosting the Kings
and Queens Ball tonight from 5 to 8, in the Creveling Lounge. While the Ball is a celebration
of the beautiful shades of black and brown on campus, all are welcome to attend.
Time for PCC Sportsbeat:
Stay with me, because we've got a lot to cover:
You wanted it, you got it! Lancer Badminton is back! The birdies will be flying as our
Lady shuttlecockers pursue their 6th straight SCC crown. The actions starts at 10 this morning
at the Grossmont Individual Tournament in the "big box" known as El Cajon. Welcome
back, ladies. Guess who else is back? On your mark, get, set [***!]. That's right, Our
Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams start their season tomorrow under new head
coach, Cedric Hill at the Cerritos Invitational. Kick some grass, Lancers. Our Men's and
Women's Swimming and Diving teams are taking on not one, but two teams today at the Diving
Double Dual starting at 12:30 in Whittier. Hey LA Trade Tech and Rio Hondo, be afraid,
be very afraid because our Shannon Cheung and Mohammad Esmaeilian are going to make
some serious waves! After suffering a rainout yesterday, our Soft-ballahs return home today
to start a four game home stand at Robinson Park. They're hoping to get off their two
game schneid today against the Eagles of Mission College at 2 or against the Vaqueros of GCC
tomorrow. Finally, this is a truly epic weekend for our hoopsters. Both of our Men's and
Women's b-ballers enter the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
It's been over a decade since our 12th seeded Men have been in the playoffs, they return
to action at 7 o'clock tomorrow night in Mission Viejo as they take on the Co-champions
of the Orange Empire Conference, the Saddleback College Gauchos. Our 4th seeded Lady Lancers,
led by our six all-SCC players, take on the College of the Canyons Cougars. Ball tips
at 7 tomorrow night in the Hutto-Patterson Lancerdome, or gym, where our Lancers are
an all-time 18-1 in their playoff history. Let's make it 19, ladies!
We have three different events happening this weekend ON campus:
First, the Pamela L. Girard Guest Artist/Master Series presents an evening with Bass/Baritone,
Ryan Mckinny, who Opera News describes as "a powerful voice that drips with gold."
You're probably gonna want to get you some of that. The performance starts at 8 in the
Westerbeck Recital Hall and admission is free. Gold for free, you can't beat that. The
production of Stephen Sondheim's enchanting, Tony Award winning musical, "Company,"
continues it's three week run tonight and tomorrow at 8 o'clock, in the Blackbox Theater.
Company is a musical with a very familiar them, one man's inability to commit to a
relationship. What else is new? Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students,
staff, and seniors. You can purchase them at the Center for the Arts box office. Finally,
don't miss the one-act theater production, "Months on End," Sunday at 4PM, in the
Little Theater of C-106. Months on End is a charming show on relationships.
Tickets are $5, and $3 for students, staff, and seniors.
Last, but not least, we want to send a little mad-love out to PCC's Dana Club for following
us on Twitter at PCC Lancer Lens. The Dana Club established in 1937 is an amazing club
that sponsors guest lectures, arranges informal field trips, and organizes several fund-raising
activities to support the wonderful world of Geology. You can check them out on Twitter
at PCC Dana Club.
If you would like a PCC One shout out, just follow PCC Lancer Lens on Twitter and Tweet
to us hash tag Shout Me Out at PCC Lancer Lens.
That's all the news that's fit to stream. If you have any news items or announcements
that you would like shared, please submit your request to lancerlens@pasadena.edu.
