Amazon's Kindle Fires are about to get faster and more personal.
That according to the company, which introduced Wednesday three new Kindle Fire tablets — the
HD, HDX7 and HDX 8.9.
Says Amazon: "These are powerhouse tablets. We added the latest graphics engine, doubled
the memory, and tripled the processing power..."
The 7-inch Kindle Fire HD starts at $139 and ships in early October. Pre-orders begin Wednesday.
It's lighter than its predecessor and has a 1280x800 pixel display and dual stereo speakers.

For a step up, the Kindle Fire HDX 7 comes with a 1920x1200 display and starts at $229
for a 16GB version. (Via SlashGear)
There's also an 8.9-inch HDX, which, like the HDX 7 comes with Qualcomm's quad-core
Snapdragon 800 processor. Amazon says the HDX tablets are four times faster than before
when it comes to graphics functions.
CNET calls all three of the new tablets and the new Fire operating system "incredibly
ambitious" but adds it's unclear how well they'll be received.
And because the comparisons are almost unavoidable — NBC's Wilson Rothman suggests the new
line "poses a real threat to iPad dominance."
Apple, on the other hand, is expected to release the iPad Mini Retina later this year.
