What I enjoyed most this summer was actually the international atmosphere that we had during
the whole Summer School. There were so many people from all over the world, loads of them
were international students in the country that they were representing, much like me,
and then we were in Mexico so basically you get a representation of three counties from
one person and it was just amazing to be able to find out so many things about Lithuania
and the Netherlands and then like just from one person, or like from example for me, learnt
so many things from Bulgaria and then England. So it was definitely very exciting, very unusual.
From an international aspect of the Summer School I felt that the way the staff over
there in Mexico put us into little teams of six was a great idea because we had to put
at least two Mexican students and at least two international students per team, which
created a vibrant atmosphere of culture and expertise from different areas of the world.
In my team we had three Mexicans, me from England, another from Sweden who was studying
in Scotland, and one from Australia. So together we created a great team Los Enmascarados and
we worked together really well. I think that this aspect of the summer school created bonds
between other countries and got us talking to each other immediately.
The international aspects of the Summer School was amazing. You were sort of thrust into
group work so you’re always with people from different countries. In my group I had
a Chinese girl, I had Mexican girls, I had a Singaporean friend – or two Singaporean
friends – so you’re always around people from different cultures and different countries
and I think that was amazing because it means in the world nowadays, you have to work with
different people from different social backgrounds and that very much came across in the programme.
It was amazing to always have to do group work and meet new people and that was really
emphasised in the programme, which was nice because you want to go abroad and meet new
people and learn new cultures, that’s the whole point of going abroad, to learn different
experiences culturally and internationally, so it was really good.
