My question is a really simple one. Isn’t today a great day?
Yes, it’s a great day for me, for the club, for the Barcelona fans.
The fact that three of our players are here reflects what a year the club has had and how important it is for all of us.
To know what you have achieved through sport, and to fulfil your personal objectives -
did you ever dream about being in such a positive situation so soon?
Not even in our wildest dreams could we imagine all that we’ve experienced this past year.
The achievements, the common effort put into getting there - both as a group or at my own personal level.
In the sports context, you are known as a player who respects fair play, and who sets an example for many young people.
I imagine it is a responsibility you are aware of and that it makes you pay special attention to this particular aspect of your life.
I am who I am. I don’t need to change anything or my image in front of the cameras.
I live the way I’ve always lived, with nothing to hide.
I recall that at your first FiFPro in Camp Nou you were on crutches.
Today you are in perfect condition and are about to receive an award.
Lionel, things have been going well for you.
It’s true: things have been going well for me and for my team mates.
But, as I said before, our achievements have been hard won and that’s why there are three of us here today.
I’m sure you know that in the FIFPro, the players cast their votes freely, individually and in secret.
It must be good to know that your colleagues appreciate the job you are doing and your efforts.
I guess that knowing that all players across the world have this right to decide must give you great encouragement.
Yes, it’s great to win this award, and the fact that it has been decided by one’s peers makes it all the more relevant.
Well, in addition to all this, we would appreciate you saying a few words for the Festive Season.
Here’s hoping that this FIFPro award doesn’t change you and that you remain the same down-to-earth Lionel.
Moreover, that your game and football in general continue to be respected as a thing of beauty, enthusiasm and imagination.
Let’s pray that things remain that way.
Many thanks – a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Lionel, a safe trip home.
