[RAP MUSIC PLAYING]
TYLER THE CREATOR:
My mom's awesome.
I actually--
ELLIOT WILSON: You have a
shout out to your mom.
TYLER THE CREATOR: I get my
personality from her,
believe it or not.
I done seen her *** dudes up.
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: I've
seen her fighting.
My mom's crazy.
And I get this craziness from
her, believe it or not.
You know in "Domo 23" at the
beginning, where I'm like,
"What's up fool?" That's
from my mother.
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: You
could ask Clancy.
That's from her.
I *** with my mom.
She's tight.
ELLIOT WILSON: She was at the
MTV Awards when you won.
TYLER THE CREATOR: Yeah.
ELLIOT WILSON: She was high
fiving and she was fanning
herself down.
TYLER THE CREATOR: And sometimes
she's annoying.
Because she'll be like
Googling me.
It was some *** with me
and Azealia Banks--
some Tumblr made a ***
poll, who's a
better rapper this week?
And she was voting.
[LAUGHTER]
ELLIOT WILSON: Did you win?
TYLER THE CREATOR: And I'm like
yo, what the *** are you
doing, dude?
But at the end of the day,
I'm her only son.
And it's just me, her,
and my sister.
And she supports me.
She's my biggest fan, so I'm
very grateful for my mom for
being my biggest fan and
supporting me with any decision.
So I *** with her.
ELLIOT WILSON: Oh
no, of course.
Shout them out.
You grew up in a single
parent home.
So do you feel like, even now,
this adult responsibility?
Like I know earlier you said
that people always joke about
maturity with you.
But you're a 22-year-old man,
and you had to buy a house for
your family.
What's that step like--
signing mortgage papers and
grown *** like that?
TYLER THE CREATOR: Yeah, it's
funny, because people think
I'm so immature.
But I make big boy decisions,
believe it or not.
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: People think
I'm so *** stupid.
And If they actually sat and
realized, that I'm ***
very smart, but they think I'm
so *** stupid, because I
think drawing dicks on
stuff is still funny.
But yeah and ***--
yeah, maturity is a big thing
that comes with me.
People who just watch
me or whatever.
ELLIOT WILSON: Well, was that
emotional for you, the
responsibility of that, signing
mortgage papers and
things like that?
TYLER THE CREATOR:
Dude, not really.
it just comes with it.
I could not be signing ***
house papers or buying a car
or some ***.
I could be ***
broke as ***.
So that's not even a problem.
I'm stoked that I
can ***--
ELLIOT WILSON: No, because now
you get paid to do the ***
that you used to do
for free, right?
TYLER THE CREATOR: Dude,
I'm making a living
off of doing hobbies.
That is the tightest ***
in the *** world.
I would literally be making
those videos, and tie dying
shirts, and drawing on my
*** clothes for free.
And I'm getting paid
to do that.
And literally, I don't give a
*** what no one says, that is
the best job in the
*** world.
[APPLAUSE]
ELLIOT WILSON: But you're very
proud of those spots with
Mountain Dew, right?
TYLER THE CREATOR: Dude,
I have so many
***, just random--
I think of *** all the
time that I forget.
I remember Clancy coming up to
me, and he was like, hey you
know who thinks you're cool?
I was like, who the *** man?
He's like, oh, Mountain Dew.
I was like, oh word,
oh, [INAUDIBLE]
I mean they think
you're creative,
and I'm like oh whatever.
I'm going to tell them some
stupid idea I come with five
minutes before the meeting,
and they're going to think
it's *** retarded.
And I didn't get my hopes up
at all, because that's that
expectation *** I was talking
about earlier.
And then I took a meeting with
them, and they was like, OK.
They were really cool.
Actually, young--
a little older than me--- and
it was like, so tell us your
commercial idea.
And I was like, all right, so
it's a *** goat, right?
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: And he going
to drink the ***
Mountain Dew, and he going to
yell at the lady, and then the
cop's going to pull him over.
And then he going to be
in jail, and then
he going to do ***.
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: Yeah,
there's an idea.
And just based on, high school
and ***, when I'd tell people
my ideas, and they're like,
you're *** retarded.
They liked it.
They *** liked it.
And I'm sitting here--
I'm so used to people saying
that's *** retarded.
And I'm looking at Clancy, and
I'm like yo, are they serious?
And they actually liked it.
So the next thing I know,
they're like, hey we're
serious about it.
Well, we got to budget it.
So I'm like, oh whatever,
they're really not going to
*** with this.
So I'm sketching them
out and ***--
what goat we need.
We're going to look
at goats and ***.
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: Mind you, the
whole time I'm like, this
is probably not going to
work, but whatever.
We're driving at a valley,
looking at goats and ***
cows and ***, picking
out what goat.
And the next thing I know, I'm
at the editing bay, putting
together the cuts for the
commercial I shot with this
*** goat.
And it dawned on me, finally,
someone looked pass the ***,
or the devil worshipping, or
the immaturity, which is
evident in the commercial, and
they actually gave me a
chance, and let me be
*** seven years
old with their product.
So the Mountain Dew
dudes are here.
I just want to thank you.
I love you.
ELLIOT WILSON: Yeah, they're
very excited.
Yes, shout out to them.
Yo, but you really have a goat,
right, or something?
TYLER THE CREATOR: No.
ELLIOT WILSON: No?
TYLER THE CREATOR: Ya'll
probably seen that *** I put
on Instagram.
And my mom texted me
get this ***
goat out of the garage.
ELLIOT WILSON: I thought she
was also Michael Jackson.
[INAUDIBLE].
TYLER THE CREATOR: No.
One of the goat doubles--
I kept it.
And I'm going to put it on my
wall in my room with a bunch
of other ***.
But I left it in the garage.
And one morning, she's sleepy,
taking my sister to school,
and the goat was right there
by the car door.
She almost had a heart attack.
[LAUGHTER]
ELLIOT WILSON: What's
your sister like?
She seems like you've kept
her out of the spotlight?
TYLER THE CREATOR: Dude, I don't
like pictures of none of
my family, anywhere.
I like to keep that
*** private.
Because my fans--
ya'll *** weird, man.
[LAUGHTER]
ELLIOT WILSON: Be on
Facebook and ***?
TYLER THE CREATOR: But
no, my sister's cool.
It's weird, because when
we were younger,
we did not get along.
And as she got older,
that's my ***.
She's cool.
Because most ***
13-year-olds,
they're just followers.
They listen to whatever.
But I walked upstairs, and I
think she was listening to
Nirvana or some ***.
And I was like, what the ***?
But growing up, I would just
play all types of music.
So I guess she just adapted.
She just got that from me, so
it's pretty cool to see that
in some form or way,
I've influenced
some 13-year-old girl.
ELLIOT WILSON: Yeah.
So it's not even awesome like my
brother's famous, it's more
like your musical tastes
in a way, [INAUDIBLE].
TYLER THE CREATOR: Yeah,
she's super chill.
My sister's tight.
I *** with her.
ELLIOT WILSON: Yeah,
no that's dope.
When did you know "Wolf"-- you
had gotten past the writer's
block, and that "Wolf" was
shaping up to be something
that was special.
When did you feel like,
I have a vision
now of my third album?
And, you know--
TYLER THE CREATOR: It was
I had a deadline.
I wanted to put it out in May,
and I wasn't even started.
I didn't even start it.
I wanted to put it
out in November.
I didn't even start this ***.
And then it was a good three
weeks, where I was just
literally stuck in a studio
every day, and I make one
tight *** beat.
And oh ***, then I make
another one, I
make another one.
And literally, it was a time
frame where I made nine
*** songs that were
just really sick.
And the whole thing with "Wolf"
is basically this whole
album is just me emulating
the music I listen to.
So when you hear ***
"Treehome95" I know some
people hated that ***
on Jimmy Fallon.
But I listen to Stevie Wonder
and Isaac Hayes.
That's all I listen to.
So when you see me on a piano,
playing *** cords and
***, I'm just trying to
emulate what I grew up
listening to.
And *** having the roots,
watching the roots play my
baselines and my *** bells
and *** was the tightest ***
in the *** world.
[LAUGHTER]
TYLER THE CREATOR: Because I had
never played with a band.
I always wanted to
be in a band.
[APPLAUSE]
[HORSES WHINNY AND GALLOP]
