Introduced by Saturax, from satriani-fr.com
Hi everybody and welcome to the first test released for satriani-fr.com !
So today we are in the famous "l'ampli à lampes" amp store, in Paris (France)
and we will introduce to you the new Marshall JVM410HJS. "H" JS because it's only a stack yet
and there's no combo version anymore.
This is the JVM410 enhanced by Joe Satriani.
SPECIFICATIONS
About the specs, this is a 100W tube amp.
We have 4 x ECC83 for the preamp,
and for the power tubes we have 1 x ECC83 and 4 x EL34.
This has 4 channels, and 3 modes for each channel.
You can found here the clean channel
the crunch channel, and the 2 overdrives channels : OD1 & OD2.
One of the most important part of this amp is the noise gates section
this is something Satch already had on his Peavey amps
when he had enhanced the Triple *** for the JSX signature
he added a noise gate.
For the JVM410HJS
we have not just 1, but 4 noise gates for the whole head !
It couldn't be easier to use :
If you have unwanted noise in one of the channels
enable it, turn the button
and the noise has disappeared !
For the rest of the buttons, we have 2 master volumes
and presence and resonance controls.
This one turns the footswitch on, this is the same footswitch controller
as the JVM410's one, with 6 buttons.
The FX loop is right here.
One interesting thing is the DRY/WET button on the back
which allows you to turn the volume of the pedals up and down
placed in the FX loop :
DRY turns down the volume of those pedals and WET turns it up
in the final sound.
The JVM410HJS was designed to be
far more dynamic than his predecessor.
Following Satch's instructions, the Marshall engineers have cancelled
the natural compression of the distortions.
This is why it's more dynamic and you are more free to express yourself.
Now i'm gonna start to introduce to you the 4 channels, right to the clean channel !
CLEAN CHANNEL
So, the first channel of the JVM410HJS changes completely compared
to the one of the JVM410.
Indeed, the first mode, the green mode
was built like the original Marshall 6100.
Why had Satch chosen this amp?
Because according to him, this is the best clean that would accept
distortion pedals.
He sometimes uses this channel for gigs
with his own distortion signature pedal, the famous Satchurator
from Vox.
This green mode is a little bit special, because it works
without the volume button, just with EQ, gain & master.
On the other hand the orange & red modes are working with the whole
button section, so with the volume button.
The orange is a tiny bit more dirty and the red mode
a little bit more dirty.
So, let's play !

CRUNCH CHANNEL
Now we're going to focus on the crunch mode.
So, the crunch mode of the JVM410 was based on the JCM800 amp.
Now, the crunch is based on the modified JMP800 from the '80s
it's the part of the amp which sounds the most vintage.
It completely rocks for the rythm, and the same for the solos, we'll see that right now !

OD1 CHANNEL
One special thing in the JVM410HJS is the two overdrive channels
they are purely identical.
Why had Satch made this choice?
Because it gaves the ability to have the same
setup at many different volumes.
Originally on the JVM410
the OD2 channel sounded low pitched compared to the OD1 channel
that was because it was a little less mid-range
the frequency of the OD2 was 500Hz, instead of 650Hz for the OD1.
Satch thought about the people who liked the OD2 on the JVM410
and so he created the mid-shift, a scoop switch to emulate the OD2
that was on the original JVM410.
Now, the OD1 channel, right to the red mode, let's go !
