I've been curling since I was 4 years old. My dad got me on the rink when I was really young.
After hockey, I'd go to the curling rink, so
he got me and my brother starting early.
Ryan Harnden, our lead, is my younger brother. Ryan's three years younger than me, so obviously we grew up together.
Ryan and E.J. Harnden are my cousins,
so I've known them my whole life.
You know we just started joking around
it would be great to, you know, be able to play together one day and it just
so happened that about two months later that opportunity came available and the rest is history.
No, it's amazing. You know what, I'm going to the Olympics with my brother on my team.
Not many people can say that. To me, the Olympics is the pinnacle of sport.
This literally is, and I know it's cliché—literally is a dream come true.
One of the biggest challenges for amateur athletes is finding out how you're gonna, fund your next event.
It costs money...to do all these things.
Quest for gold for us is just been...it's peace of mind
knowing that we do have funds available to support our travel
our accommodations, our meals, our entry fees.
The program is a phenomenal opportunity for amateur athletes and something that we're very proud to be a part of
you know, the fact that they can help fund some amateur athletes and help fund
our dream, means the world to us.
It just gives us the freedom to go compete. We don't have to worry, worry about anything else. We just need to worry about our performance and that's when we're at our best.
Just to have that program means a ton, to not just myself, but all the other guys on my team and throughout the other athletes in Ontario.
For us, we're big believers in power positive thinking
and envisioning your success. We're motivated by
each other and motivated you know, to win.
I wanna be known as one of the best players in the sport and part of one of the best teams in the sport and
you know, we're just giving ourselves opportunity to prove that.
and when we walk into the stadium in Sochi as
you know, a big part of, a part of team Canada, we know that's it's gonna be a moment that we'll never forget.
And just to have that maple leaf, and always growing up wanting
to wear it and it's just going to be an unbelievable feeling again
walking into Russia and knowing that we're part of Team Canada.
