Hello there, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing. Today is Digital
Friday and I am going to talk briefly about the importance of having great Search Engine
Optimization or SEO.
Search engine optimization allows for your company or your brand or your product to be
quickly and easily found using search engines such as Google and so forth. It’s important,
it’s essential that your *** good because you want to make sure that you can be found.
Now customers are using search engines all the time. Aren’t you? Don’t you go out
and use Google and Yahoo! But also companies are staking their turf out online as well,
your competitors. So you have to make sure that you have a presence out there to compete
against them. If you don’t have a strong presence you won’t be discovered by potential
customers.
Let’s talk about brand obscurity for a moment, at least online. Imagine you are a major company,
you’ve been around for a long time and you really have a great product that delivers
on its promise. But now think about what would happen if a lot of upstarts, a lot of new
companies came on-board and they were much better at search engine optimization than
you are. And even thought they have an inferior product when people go out and start looking
for that kind of product or service they find these new upstarts, these new competitors
and you drop way down on the Google pages because you are not as good at search engine
optimization.
Even though you have a superior product, all of a sudden your completion is gobbling up
market share. So it’s absolutely important that you be able to cut through that clutter.
One of the ways to do that, we talk about it all the time, is to really emphasize what
your brand is all about. Making sure you are getting that number one positioning in the
minds of your customers and then consistently telling that story. Today you need to be using
the internet so much to do that whether it be blogs or social media, so that people can
find you when they do look for you.
Great search engine optimization is truly the yellow brick road in my opinion. By that
what I mean is that it is a direct path, a very clear path to you so potential customers
can find you. Look at your SEO. If it isn’t as good as you think it should be then work
on finding solution so that it really becomes a powerful tool to drive traffic to you.
