Especially if you want a successful career maximizing your employability is very important.
What I mean by employability is that you stack the odds in your favor when you apply for
a job by doing training, playing sports and maybe play a musical instrument. These are
key characteristics that seperate people from the pack in job applications, and especially
when the competition is steep having these may give you the edge to get short listed.
Training and Education Training are things like an OH&s courses or
hospitality training. These are minor additions to your skill set that can be useful. Think
about the type of job you want and then think about what skills you should develop to become
the best possible worker in that area. Education should be your major skill set.
For most higher tier jobs you need a university (college) degree of some sort. Doing well
at university and school is a key bonus as it reflects how good you are academically
which is often translated into how productive you can be in a job.
Join a Sports Team Teamwork is very important in most jobs. You
rarely work alone in a workplace, especially in larger companies. Being part of a sports
team is favorable because it gives you training in how to work with a team, be a part of a
team and potentially lead a team. All of these are liked by employers and not many people
choose to be a part of a team, so joining a sports team will give you a good edge over
the main pack.
Play a Musical Instrument Music is a creative activity, and creativity
is what is needed to be a good worker. It trains your mind to think about problems in
different ways since learning to play an instrument is very different to algebra.
All of these will give you a strong boost to your resume and CV. I would not be surprised
if you apply for a relevant job and get an interview every time. Ever since I incorporated
all of these in my life I have had a much better response from job applications.
