My name is Paolo Maggioni, I'm 30, I'm a journalist
I lead with Massimo Cirri and Sara Zambotti a radio program
which I think many of you already know, it's called Caterpillar
and it's been airing for 17 years on Radio 2.
It is the official radio program of the return home of the Italians,
we accompany people from 6pm to 7.30pm in their return home.
Caterpillar is a program that not only tells about Italy
but also tells about a different Italy, which decides to get rid of the mafias
and which comes from us, from Us, indeed, as a model the first person plural
of participation and socializing.
It is a teaching that Don Luigi Ciotti has given us during these years.
I very willingly lent my voice to the radio station that articulates
the basic steps of the life of Alberto Varone
because it seems to me a very interesting project
this joining of far away communities,
San Damiano d'Asti and the province of Caserta
from which Varone comes, thanks to the work of young people
who, basically moved by a civic spirit,
by a deep civic passion and even with gratuity
which is a key issue, they got together and they have
made this short film, medium-length film, indeed, because
they certainly will exceed in the video editing because the story deserves it,
which is an example of hope.
So I think and I hope that projects like this
from below, truly, extremely rich in meaning and participation,
could multiply and enable us, in fact, by means of the short film
and story which comes out through a film, to remind us
who are the true heroes of this country,
what are, in short, the examples to follow
And with a self-produced film, homebuilt, self-written,
edited on their own, in my opinion...
They can reach levels of poetry not bad.
It's a nice blend, a nice hold together
so many different concepts that bode well and that they are in my opinion
also a little big form of resistance,
which is a cultural resistance to a model that instead
goes somewhere else;
I think that resistance together with commitment and participation
are three good points of the compass to keep always in mind.
A big hug and especially a big thank you
to all those who have thought about this film, who have decided
to invite me, but above all for doing it because, well...
Come on, otherwise then it expires in the rhetoric, however, it is really
a very nice gesture and deserves love.
Bye!
