Welcome to the ETD tutorial Series by the Florida International University Graduate
School. This video will show you how to submit your
ETD to our DigitalCommons Repository. First, access your account.
Login with your credentials. Click the Submit Research link.
Find the University Graduate School and underneath click the FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
link. Read and accept the following agreement. Click
continue. you'll arrive at the submission form page.
First, add your title. Do not format your title in all CAPS. Only capitalize the first
letter of important words. The author field will be pre-populated from
logging in. For the Document Type choose thesis or dissertation.
Next, select your degree. Now, select an appropriate department.
Next the advisor's section is important. The first advisor(s) should be the Committee Chair
(major professor). So enter the committee chair's name and under title enter "Committee
Chair." If there are two committee Chairs, put Co-Committee Chair. Enter the other committee
members but do not give them titles. Next enter the keywords that describe your
work. If you aren't sure consult with your professors.
Enter your date of Defense. An embargo will postpone access to your article
for 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years. Select if needed.
Enter a discipline or disciplines that fully describe your work.
Next, you'll be asked to enter your abstract. Just open your Word document, copy the text,
and paste into the field. You can manipulate the text if needed.
Next, upload your file by checking the circle next to "Upload File from your computer."
Choose the Word file from your computer or PDF/A if you are using LaTex.
The publication status should be checked no unless you've published your ETD as a book.
Last, if you have additional files, you can upload them along with the ETD. Media such
as music, sounds, images, video, or supplementary texts would be appropriate.
Click submit. If any mistakes were made you can always revise the submission. The most
common mistakes are in the document itself. In that case you may be asked to revise your
document and re-upload. Just click revise and scroll down to re-upload the document.
Do not have to make another submission.
