Hey everybody, this is my tutorial on how to make the ball dip like Ronaldo.
It is a laces shot. I try to hit it as high up on my foot as possible.
So instead of just around here, like the usual laces shot, I try to get it up here, as high as possible.
You want to hit the lower half of the ball, pretty much as low as possible.
So that's going to require you to angle your foot like this.
It almost looks like you're hitting it with the side of your foot
but you're really make contact with your laces, high up on your foot, and then striking the lower half of the ball.
Ideally, just as low as possible.
You have to follow through up, and a little bit to the side.
Following through up is really important for dip.
This is what it should look like...
So, Ronaldo has a pretty strange run-up.
I don't take that kind of a run up - I kind of trott up with 3 or 4 steps
and I do try to stay on my toes, but it's not completely necessary.
If you're just practicing, I wouldn't suggest trying to immitate his run-up because it's going to throw off your timing.
The planting foot, you don't want to plant too close to the ball.
You need a good wide stance in order to follow-through correctly and to kick the right spot of the ball.
If you're like this and you're right next to the ball, you can't really get this angle correctly.
You have to be spread out.
If you're having trouble with height, there's not a lot you can do...
If you're seeing it dip, just it's dipping at 5 ft, and you want it to be at 6 or 7 ft high,
That's great because even Ronaldo messes up the height sometimes and hits the wall
and I certainly don't always get the amount of height that I want all the time.
The answer ISN'T to lean back more. That's just going to cause backspin.
You need to focus on really executing well, trying to hit the ball at a lower point, and getting that angle really well.
If you're not used to it, it can be kind of uncomfortable.
But I've actually been doing this all my life with driven shots, just going at it sideways as opposed to straight on like this, or diagonally.
On the follow-through, it helps to keep your ankle locked.
A lot of times, if you're seeing it go too high or getting backspin, it's because you're probably relaxing your ankle as you're kicking it.
That will cause backspin as apposed to topspin.
So, what this shot does, is if you kick it high up on your foot here, below the ball,
and follow through up, it causes the ball to roll off you're foot...and that's what gives it topspin.
Just a little bit of that spin - even if it's just a half spin.
Gravity is on your side.
If you have a shot with backspin, it's going to keep it up, keep it floating.
But, as it's going with no spin, if it starts to tilt over, that's going to cause it to drop a lot.
It works as well with knuckle-balls, because the ball moves unpredictably, and as soon as the ball starts to move down,
it's never going to come back up, just because of the way...
it wants to fall.
