Most of the time I'm sitting at my computer typing up code
[Typing]
I create web applications and edit programs and data
that deal with, basically, everything, about the University.

My name is Zachary Potts. I work at the Office of Information Technology
as a Program Analyst Senior.
I guess I've always been intered in computers
I never did a lot of programmin, but I was always interested in computers,
and hardware and putting things together
so computer science seemed to be a pretty good fit.
In between programming, if I run into issues
or even if we get new projects or new work assignments,
we'll go to meetings and things to discuss that.
Recently, we've had this big push from the Honors College
to cnvert all of their paper applications to web applications,
and with that, there are certainly problems and challenges
and needs that arise that the Honors College wants a specific
thing done, or they want the application to work in a specific way
and we have to work around those challenges.

I got my Bachelor's Degree here at The University of Alabama
so I had gotten my undergraduate degree here at UA
and I started my full-time position in OIT
and I wanted also to get my Master's
and I was kind of working on it a little bit
but a great thing about working at UA is that
you get one free class a semester.
So, I could continue working on my Master's Degree
and basically UA would pay for it.
So they encourage you to continue your education.
While I was studying here at UA, I never really thought I would get a job here
I was just interested in computer science.
I saw a student job on the UA website
and I applied for it. I got it. I was working as a student,
and eventually they offered me a full-time position so I took it.
