Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know about a really cool project that I'm involved
in. Some of you may know of Kristin from her channel, casey4441, and she recently invited
me to contribute to her upcoming e-book, Hacking Transition. This is a guide for trans women
about every imaginable aspect of the process of transitioning. Most literature on transition
focuses on the physical aspects of it: the medical treatments, the style advice, and
the practical implications for everyday life. Our book explores these in detail, incorporating
the best and most up-to-date scientific information about being trans. But we've also chosen to
focus on the subjective experience of living as a trans woman, and the process of recognizing
that you're trans and coming to terms with this. This isn't just a book for people who
know they're trans and want to know how to transition. It's also for people who don't
know if they're trans, and aren't sure if they should transition. When it comes to these
doubts and questions, the conventional wisdom is that if you're not absolutely sure, don't
do it! But we think we have a better and more helpful answer for these people than just
throwing them back into the pit of "don't bother". We want to give them the tools to
figure themselves out and get a taste of the experience without necessarily having to commit
to anything. For some people, just realizing that they're trans can be the longest and
most difficult part of transitioning, sometimes taking years or decades. If we can help someone
accept who they are and realize that their doubts don't have to be a dealbreaker, I'll
be satisfied that this book has done its job. If you're interested in the specifics, some
of the topics we'll be covering include: confidence and self-esteem, repression through hypermasculinity,
"autogynephilia", early transition versus later-in-life transition, differentiating
the reality of being trans from media depictions, the prevalence of trans people, dysphoria
or the lack thereof, hypothetical and practical experiments for exploring your gender, choosing
a name, coming out in any context, trans-friendly religions, legal protections and concerns,
finding good doctors and therapists, the physical and mental effects of HRT, the truth about
progesterone, the surgeries that are available, new treatments in development, hair removal,
voice practice, your fertility, relationship advice, sex advice, style advice, disclosure,
using public facilities, myths about transitioning, scams that don't work, exercise and nutrition,
and anything else that's relevant to life as a trans woman. This has become a constantly
expanding document, and we're always open to suggestions for what we should include.
We're looking to release the book in May, and if you'd like to sign up for any updates
on our progress, just go to the site below. There's also a link to a preview of the introduction.
Kristin and I are really excited about this, and we hope you are, too.
