are
when you're able to go out into the community and work with
schools and organizations you can reach thousands of kids
and you can make a difference in their lives. Children that would not have had that
opportunity before
and that's a really big motivator for me.
if you do things right, you can really have a lucrative
investment. But you can also do some really good
things for people, for kids it's just a feel-good business and ultimately you
you could really impact an entire community. It's a wonderful business to be in to be
able to
feel comfortable in the community we're an asset, were always a value
people know what we do, the ads resonated with them and say "Oh Sylvan,
I went there, my cousin with there and now we're beginning to see children
of people that went to Sylvan. It makes you a critical part your community
so we have lots of relationships with our chambers
all of our schools, local businesses
because the kids are the foundation in the future of everything we're building
There's one boy his name is Hugo and
he attended his Mom's Enrollment conference. And I said "Hugo
what are your goals, why would you want to come to Sylvan"? And he looked at
me, his English wasn't so good and he said I want to get to the point
when I read out loud in class the kids don't laugh at me.
So six months after he had been with us, coming in three or four hours a week
I asked Hugo, "how are things going"? And he gets this big smile on his face
and he said "the teacher has asked me to stop raising my hand so much
to give the other kids a chance and
the kids are now calling me a nerd" and he thought that was terrific!
we need to work together because there are so many needs that
that working apart just doesn't yield the same results and so
we were very involved in the community that is a very important part of what we
do
I wouldn't have it any other way.
