The new 1 Series will change everything
Today we are invited by BMW Group the Netherlands to test-drive the 2012 model
BMW 1 series .
The car we picked up today is the powerful diesel: the BMW 120d.
The previous generation 1 Series is a very familiar car to us. 1.2 million are sold until
today. A big success for BMW.
The question is, will the new 1 Series be as sportive as the previous model?
Well we can be clear on that. It is still a sportive and agile vehicle but BMW managed
to get it more comfortable as well.
The noise reduction is impressive, but I think, the comfort is also established by the large wheel
base of this new car.
The car doesn't get very nervous when driving over short bumps in the road.
furthermore: the standard equipment has been upgraded as well and also adds more
cabin comfort.
If you still want a more sporty character you can order a M sport setup.
I will demonstrate the new Parking Assistant System on this car.
You drive by a parking lot and look to your info screen.
the system says: Stop your car to start the parking manoeuvre.
Put the transmission in Rear drive. Slowly driving backwards.
Hands off
Back to Drive,
Ready!
Driving Experience Control There are three driving programs in this car
Three settings: EcoPro: saves fuel up to 20%, Comfort: standard setup, Sport: in sport
setting the engine is more alert on your right foot and also the automatic gear transmission
response is a bit quicker..
In Sport plus there is less traction control and the steering will be more direct.
The new 1 Series is significant larger then is its predecessor. The car grew 8.5 cm in length
which you can experience in the interior.
The performance of the 120d is impressive. 0-100 km/h in 7.2 sec. and a top speed of 230
km/h. This is a confident quick car.
