Do you need help gaining access to one of the many interesting and interactive digital audiobooks available through the UW Libraries?
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to check out and listen to an audiobook using the OneClickDigital interface - a downloadable audiobook platform.
Once you’ve found an audiobook you’re interested in, you will be taken from the library catalog to whatever interface that book is on.
Here is the catalog record for an audiobook from the Pimsleur language programs collection that you can check out if you want to learn how to
speak Spanish. Click the “Connect to this title online; UW restricted” link to go to the interface – remember to log in if you are off-campus!
Now that you’ve entered the OneClickDigital interface, the first thing you will need to do is create an account. This will be a different
account than your UW NetID. Look to the upper right-hand corner of the page and you will see a link to create a new account.
Since this is our first time checking out a OneClickDigital book, that’s what we want to do. If you already had an account, we would click
the link on the left to log in. For now though, let’s click “Create New Account” Creating an account is easy, just fill out the form
– and make sure to choose which operating system you are using (Mac or Windows) Once you’ve created an account, you will need
to download the OneClickDigital Media Manager to your computer. To do this, click on “Getting Started” from the OneClick homepage.
Choose the version you need (Windows, Mac, etc.), depending on your computer. If you are a Windows user, we recommend that you use the
OneClickDigital Media Manager as your method to download audiobooks, and then transfer them onto your other portable devices if you wish.
If you are a Mac user, you can either use the Mac Media Manager, or opt for manual transfers. If you download one of the media managers, it
will create a shortcut to the program on your desktop and also put it in your start menu under Start > All Programs > Recorded Books.
Now that you’ve downloaded the Media Manager, you are ready to check out an audiobook!
Back on the OneClickDigital webpage, either search or browse your way back to the book you want to check out.
Once you’re on the webpage for the book you want to check out click on “check out now” on the right side of the page.
Not sure if this is the book you want to check out? Click the “preview” button for a 3-5 minute preview of the book.
Books can be checked out for 10 days, and can only be checked out and accessed by one person at a time. If the book you want is
checked out by someone else, you can put yourself on a hold list for the title. Your book will now be in the Media Manager you
downloaded, let’s go see! Look for the shortcut to the Media Manager on your computer desktop or you can find it under
Start > All Programs > Recorded Books. Remember to use the account info you created when you set up your OneClickDigital account
to sign in (not your UW NetID). You will find the book you just checked out under the “check outs” tab.
You can play the audiobook from here and listen on your computer, by clicking the “Play” button. You can also transfer the book to another device
(like your smart phone), by clicking the “download and transfer” button. If you are downloading books to your Apple
device (iPod, iPad, etc), you must have iTunes installed. Just FYI, the books will not show up in your iTunes library.
You can also get back to the OneClickDigital website – to check out another book – from right within the Media Manager by clicking “Browse
Website” If you followed the directions in this tutorial and you’re still having trouble, feel free to ask a
librarian, either via email or chat, for assistance and we will forward your question to the appropriate tech support channel with
OneClickDigital. Happy listening!
