I’m Melissa with Woolenton Optometry for Expert Village here to tell you how to choose
your eyeglasses. Having tint put on your lenses is another popular option that you can have
done. You can do it for various reasons as well. There are the photo-chromatic lenses;
they are the ones that change as you come in and out from the sun. On a bright day,
they will turn as dark as sunglasses and then go to clear as you come inside. It takes about
five minutes for them to become fully dark and about fifteen minutes for them to go to
completely clear. One thing that they do not do is they do not change in the car, so you
will need a second pair of sunglasses to complement those. Another thing that you can have done
is just do a light cosmetic tint, kind of like this, there is not much, helps with glare
a little bit but that’s really the only purpose that you would have those done other
than cosmetic. Another thing that you could have done is to actually tint, have your lenses
tinted to sunglasses, you could either do it this way or you could have a polarized
lens, like this one here, polarized is a little bit better if you are driving into direct
sunlight, also if you’re on the water or if you spend anytime on the, in the snow at
all because it cuts the glare a little bit more than a regular tinted lens would. The
yellow tint like this one here is good for nighttime driving, give you better distinction
between colors and if you do just tint your lenses you have two options between gray and
brown and those are the most popular sunglass colors. Gray is going to be better for making
things a little darker and for looking a little dull so if you’re light sensitive it’s
a little bit better. Brown is going to give you a better contrast between colors, so if
you are a golfer or play tennis or anything like that then the brown would work better
for you. And then those are the different kinds of tint that you could get on your glasses.
