>> In direct response to requests from golf industry leaders, the University of Wisconsin-Stout created its unique four-year bachelor's degree program in Golf Enterprise Management.
The program is not about playing the game of golf, but about the business of golf.
The National Golf Course Owners Association voted unanimously to endorse the development of this program, the only endorsement of its kind ever conferred by the NGCOA.
>> We always tell students that looking at this program, that it's really kind of a business program with an emphasis on golf.
>> I came and toured it, loved the idea of the whole business side of golf instead of the planning and teaching side.
And as soon as I came and toured, I fell in love, and knew that it was what I wanted to do.
>> We're trying to produce a student that isn't an expert in one particular area, but knows a lot about golf operations, knows a lot about F&D operations, knows a lot about the business side of the industry, and then probably the most important thing of all is the hospitality and the customer service.
>> You're going to have these options, and the program, it's only growing, and the opportunities are just getting better and better every year.
>> The co-op program here at UW-Stout specifically within this program is really important.
Several majors here on campus require one co-op experience.
Our program requires two full-time summer work experiences, which is extremely important for the students.
>> I was truly the assistant GM, and you have to do all the management things that I was really looking for in an internship.
>> Last summer, we had 70 students throughout 26 states around the United States.
So it's really important for the students, it's good for the employers, too.
>> For my full-time position, I got hired on as the assistant general manager at Stevenson Ranch in California.
It's the number one public course in California.
>> So far we've had 100 percent placement, which has been fantastic.
And I think the internship program here at UW-Stout has helped that, because a lot of the employers that have had our summer hires have come to us for placement for full-time hires.
>> That's how I got the job was through my internship, through references, through connections, and I feel like I'm pretty prepared for it.
I'm excited.
