Jory: (in monotone for intro only) Hello. This is "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This?", and I'm your host, Jory Caron. America's pastime: grilling.
But I don't have any matches. I have lighter fluid, I have the charcoal- how am I gonna get it lit? Microwave!
*theme song plays*
Jory: Let's go roast some nuts!
Jory: I wonder how long I should put it in there? Three minutes? Okay!
Jory: Ventilation is key!
Jory: Oh, jeez!
Jory: Safety is our number-one concern.
Jory: Yeah, I think it's just gonna catch fire.
Jory: 'Cause nobody likes roasted nuts!
Jory: Definitely a good idea!
Jory: Stopping, stopping!
Jory: Is it a good idea to microwave this?
Well, let's find out! Here at the Jory Caron Laboratory, safety is of number-one concern, as you can see. That's why we hide behind this big aluminum foil shield. It's to protect our nuts, 'cause nobody likes roasted nuts!
We also have a proper ventilation system, consisting of two fans, and the love of my life, my only joy, actually, what I wake up for in the morning, it's better than Folger's in my cup, my Sharp microwave!
Jory: So, in goes the charcoal. It'll feel right at home with the ketchup. So, here goes a little bit of lighter fluid. Okay, and let's close this bad boy!
Jon: Every instinction I have about this is gonna end badly!
Jory: Yeah, closing that.
Jon: Let's do it for, like, three minutes.
Jory: Three minutes?
Jon: Make sure we roast our nuts!
Jory: Okay, let's get outta here!
Jon: I suggest we do!
Jory: It's not really burning at all.
Jon: But will it?
Jory: So, if this doesn't do anything, do you wanna stick the steel wool in there as well and just ignite it?
Jon: It IS insta-light, correct? Well, then insta-friggin'-light!
Jory: Yeah, it's not gonna do anything. Let's add something to this- a little bit of tin foil and some more lighter fluid.
Jory: Okay, ready? I'm gonna do this with the remote arm, actually.
Jon: There's a spark! How long is this in there for?
Jon: Whoa! There we go! Nice, nice!
Jon: Oh, the whole microwave's on fire! Wow! Look at that! Toasted and roasted!
Ezra: It was all the lighter fluid that did it.
Jory: Okay, so that was it.
Jon: Wow! That's a lotta smoke!
Ezra: It smells like the Fourth of July out here.
Jon: Aw, nice! Alright, masks on, boys! Highway to the danger zone right here! Here we go!
Jory: Okay, now, I'm gonna pull this bad boy outta there.
Jon: Air density's 40% smoke right now... Whoa! There we go! Whoo! Look at that! Look at all that smoke. That was mostly... The tin foil sparked the lighter fluid. I don't think the charcoal ever really...
Jory: Did anything, no...
Jon: It smells like BBQ, though!
Jory: Okay, so can you get charcoal lit from a microwave?
Jon: Not easily.
Jory: No, no. You can light the lighter fluid, but you can't really light the charcoal, and that's kinda the thing that you wanna get lit anyways.
Jory: So, is it a good idea to microwave it? No, no, because it really won't get it lit. So, that's it for "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This?" I'm Jory Caron.
