If you are a YouTube creator and you are wondering how to manage YouTube comments on your Youtube
channel, after the recent Google+ update, stay tuned, watch this short video and I'll
show you exactly how. Hi there, David Walsh here, again, from DavidWalshOnLine.com,
and in this video, which is the second part of a four part series on YouTube comments,
I'm gonna show you how to manage the comments on your YouTube channel after the recent Google+
update. Now, many YouTube creators are wondering how
to manage the comments after the recent updates. Things are not as easy as they were before,
and there's actually a lot more steps to managing your comments on your channel, as there was
previously. Now, I've been going through my channels,
I've been working out what works, what doesn't, how to do it best as possible so that you
are not spending a lot of time looking at comments, trying to find out where they are,
approving them and answering them, banning them, deleting people, all that sort of stuff,
so you can actually manage your comments a lot more efficiently on your YouTube channel.
So, we're gonna head over to the trusty computer and I'm gonna show you how to manage your
comments on your Youtube channel. Ok, so, the best way to eliminate or reduce
spam, when managing your comments on YouTube, is by actually setting them to be 'All Approved'
beforehand. And to do so, you go up to the dropdown here, click on 'Dashboard' and then
click on 'Channel Settings' and then 'Defaults'. And if you go down to 'Comments And Responses',
as long as you've got the check box allowed here, you'll have 'All' or 'Approved'. And
you'll probably have 'All', so, make sure that's clicked to 'Approved' and then click
on 'Save'. So, what this does is that all you videos
[1:56] have to be approved beforehand, before they appear underneath your videos. So, if
you are getting a few hundred a week, then, this is an option that can work for you.
If you are getting thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands of comments every day, or every
week, then this isn't exactly the most efficient method for you.
The second option would be the best for you and that is under 'Community'. So, if we click
'Community'. Now, for most of you, you won't have this 'Fans' or 'Insights', but what you
will have is 'Comment Settings'. Under here, you can set a list of approved
users, whose comments get listed automatically, they get approved automatically on your channel.
So, you can add a circle, you can add individuals. So, if I go here and I can pick one of my
circles, so, if I want my subscribed members to have access, then that is what's going
to happen there. So, their comments get automatically approved.
Now, you can set a list of banned users as well. You can set up a circle, like I've done
here, called 'Banned' and you can add those people to it or you can set them individually
in there, as I've done on here. You can also, set a blacklist of words, so,
you can put swearwords in here, you can put http://www, if somebody wants to put a link
in, and stuff like that. And you can set up your list on there, and those comments will
get flagged, so that they're not on your channel. So, if you want to keep your channel family
friendly, then you put in all the swear words, all that sort of stuff in here, and those
comments, no matter who they're from, will go into the 'For Approval' folder before they
get approved on your channel. So, this is a very good option for everybody
to use, so that, you're eliminating or reducing spam and crappy comments on your channel.
Now, the one thing about the band users, which is fantastic is, these guys, who are banned
users, they will see their own comments appear on the channel, but no one else will see them.
So, they can be putting comments on your channel as much as possible, but no one will see them
except them. So, they can be as happy as Larry, playing with with themselves, basically, on
the comments section, but it's only them who'll see it.
Now, if you scroll down to the 'Default' settings, it will show you that you, also, can set your
setting for 'Approval' here for your videos and also, your channel, as well. So, you can
have 'Allow All Comments', 'Allow All Comments For Review' or 'Hold All Commends for Review'
and 'Disable Comments' and you can do the same for your 'Channel Area' as well.
So, you have the options to select 'Hold Comments for Review' or 'Allow Comments', both on your
channel and on your videos. Now, to manage your comments, if you have a Google+ profile,
you can actually manage your comments in your Gmail account.
Now, you won't find the comments under 'Primary', you'll actually find them under 'Social'.
Now, you can see here, I have a list of comments that have been sent to my Gmail account, because
my channel is under Profile, as opposed to Page. And you can see that, what they do,
is list all the comments together in an email, so, for this particular video I've got 59
comments, this one here, I've got 90 comments, this one's got 9, this one here's got 2, 34,
48, etc, etc. And if I click on one of these here. So, I've
got a comment here, and it will show me what the comment is and then I click on 'Reply'.
And it will bring me to the video. Now, if I don't have a Google+ profile, and I'll show
you exactly how you can see on that. So, you go up to your name on the top right,
and under Google account and if it says 'Profile, you obviously have a Google+ profile on your
YouTube account or if you have 'Page' then you have a Google+ 'Page'.
Now, you'll have 'Page' when you, say, want to add a better name, choose a better name
or if you've added another YouTube channel to your existing YouTube account.
So, if you've got two more channels on your account, that will be the second or third
etc, etc, will be a 'Page' and you may have your initial as a 'Profile'. So, that's how
to tell if you have a 'Profile' or a 'Page'. Now, if you do have a 'Page', you'll need
to user this little bell chappy here, and you'll see the notifications that you're getting
your video shared, people are adding you back, people are leaving comments, etc etc.
So, here's a comment on my video, and it'll say 'Do you want to go to Google+ and look
at these'. Now, this isn't the most efficient way that
I've found for Google Pages. I haven't been using it a lot, so, if you do use Google Pages,
and have found a very efficient way to manage your comments, do let me know in the comments
and I would really like to know about it. But, for now I'm using a Google+ Profile so
it makes it a lot easier for me, because I can go into my gmail account and then when
I see the comments come through, I can click on 'Reply'. It opens up another window and
unfortunately, I do have to click off the videos.
Click pause. Which we all have to do, which wasn't there before, unfortunately, but now
that is the thing that happens. So, when we want to go to manage our comments,
we'll have a blue box pop up on the page. Now, if you don't have that box pop up on
the page, all you need to do is hover over your comment box here, and the blue box will
pop up. I don't know what it is, but that's what you have to do if your blue box doesn't
pop up. Now, it will be this blue box when you have
comments for 'Awaiting Approval'. Just click on the link here 'Review Comments'. Now, I've
left a few in here for you to see what they look like, and you can see there's a few in
there. So, we can go through the comments. So, I
want to approve that one, that's a well, I'll approve that one, that one, thank you for
the info, yep, no problem, that one's ok, that one's ok, this does not help at all.
Ok, maybe I don't like this person or I don't like this comment, so what I can do is, just,
click on the 'x' and delete it. If I wanted to undo it, I have the option. This system
sucks. Maybe I don't want that out there now as well. And again if I wanted to bring it
back, I can do that. Delete that one as well. The video is now
obsolete. We can answer that one, so, we can check that. Ok. So, we can see here are the
sub-comments on a comment, so, these are ones replying to a comment they've made and I've
replied back, etc, etc. so, yeah we can do that.
So, most of these have been approved. And we can see more comments below.
Now, there is a quick way to do this. And that would be if I went up to the top and
clicked on this box here, so what I can do is scan through my comments, delete the ones
I don't want. And here is one that I want. This is going
to be marked for spam because it's put a link in here I don't, it's just spammy, they want
people to go to their website. So, I'm going to mark that for spam.
Ok. So, there we go. So, we've got all of those there. So, you can see I've got two
comments I didn't like, I just deleted and another one that was spam. So, if I go up
to the top. Now, before I approve these, we can also, look at the ones that Google+ has
automatically marked as spam. So, they are going through and you can see,
that it's got one. This one's got all caps so, it's gonna set that off, this one has
a link in it, so, it's gonna automatically getting links on the comments and putting
them in the spam area. Then we have little Bob here. Bob is becoming
annoying on comments. He's all over the place. And you can see these ones here, we've got
the tanks, so, they're becoming annoying and that is Bob again. So, let's scroll down and
collapse that. And we can see that Google+ is quite good
in the respect that it is catching all of these and is automatically putting them into
the spam area there. And we can select all of these and just bin the lot of them, if
we wanted to. So, let's go back to our pending comments.
We're just gonna highlight them all, again and then click on approve, here. So, there,
and let's go show the rest. We wanted these two and then, approve them. And then stop
reviewing. So, there are our comments there and then
we can go in, then we can reply back to these people, which I'll do after this. And we can
still, see that we have our spam comments in there. It's quite good in the respect that
we do have a lot of ability to go in and look at the comments, look at the spam, etc, etc.
and it's catching them automatically. I don't find it as efficient as before when
I was able to just go in and answer each comment and approve individually and reply back to
them straight away. Now, I have to go in, approve them all, look at them and then it
doesn't even put the most recent ones at the top.
I have to go up here and click on newest first to see the most recent one. So, I can go back
and reply back to them. So, that is a bit of a pain, but it does allow us to have links
in there. So, I can put a link to another video, if
someone is asking about a particular thing, that they haven't found yet, and stuff like
that and I can even go in and edit my comments etc, etc. which you've seen in my last video.
So, there are some good points and some not so good points about the new Google+ but that's
how you would manage your comments on your channel, now, using the new Google+.
So, there you go. That's how you, now, manage your comments on your YouTube channel after
the recent Google+ update. For me, it wasn't as efficient as it was before. This is what
we have to deal with, right now, after the recent update.
