Throughout each semester at Pittsburg State University the Tilford Group, which formed
in April of 2007, works to attract speakers, host academic and cultural events dedicated
to reflecting the universities commitment to diversity and multiculturalism. Harriet
Bachner-“Well the Tilford Group endeavors to provide opportunities for faculty and staff
and students to hear a broad range of diversity topics.” For guest speaker Dr. Daniel Wildcat,
who’s Dean of Natural and Social Sciences at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawerence
Kansas, his message was all about diversity. That the issue of cultural diversity is absolutely
tied with the larger life system diversity of our planet. Dr. Daniel Wildcat-“And we
need it and if we lose it, it’s very likely that we will, just as our biological diversity
is declining, that cultural diversity will decline and as both decline the planet will
be a very impoverished place. So I’m going to be arguing that we reconnect nature and
culture in our daily lives.”
