Hi this is Carlos with Spicer's Music, here for another Music Minutes video.
Last week we talked about how to know when to change the strings on your guitar. This
week, we're going to talk about how to properly humidify your guitar.
Now, how does humidity affect your guitar? Well, if it's too humid outside (or inside),
what will happen is that the guitar will start to swell and you will notice that the action
on your strings will start to come up. It will be a little more difficult to play. A
lot of people think that this is just a problem with their neck, when really it's a problem
with how the guitar has been humidified.
Conversely, if it's too dry, what you will notice is that your action will be really
low and the strings will start to buzz on the fretboard. Again this is sign that maybe
your guitar is a little too dried out. Now, the good news is that if your guitar is experiencing
any of these symptoms, we have a product here at Spicer's Music that can help to solve that
problem.
So today I would like to introduce the Planet Waves Humidipak. And the way that this system
works is there are three of these little bags. And what they are, they are little pouches
containing salt and water. The cool thing about this pouch is that it breathes water,
or it absorbs water. So it works two ways. It will take humidity out of your guitar if
it's too humid, and it will also put humidity back into your guitar if its too dry. So it's
a two-way system and it keeps your guitar at about a 47% humidity. So these are excellent!
And the way that they work, is that the packet comes with these little pouches. What you
simply do is slip the pack into the pouch. And that's all you have to do!
So it comes with two. One of them is for the guitar, the other one sits up at the top of
your guitar case. And so the way that this works, and how you put it in your guitar,
is you simply just put it right in here on the soundhole. And it just sits in there when
it's not being played. And the way that this works, is it will humidify the inside of your
guitar, which is most likely not coated. And so this one will sit at the head of the case,
like we talked about, and it will help humidify the neck and the headstock. So come on in
to Spicer's Music this week and pick up one of the Humidipak systems, and I promise if
you're experiencing any adverse problems with humidity, this will definitely solve that
problem for you.
