The Avaya 9508 Digital Telephone

The 9508 features:
A large backlight monochrome display
Eight selection buttons
Four feature buttons
A navigation wheel
As well as dedicated buttons for phone, voice messages,
contacts, call history and for the speakerphone
or an optional headset
When not on a call the volume buttons can be used to set the ringtone volume
including disabling the ringtone
If the handset is down simply dialing a number
will activate the speakerphone and begin to place the call
Alternatively you can lift the handset
Press the 'speaker' button
or, if you have an optional headset attached
press the 'headset' button to hear a dial tone before dialing
Depending on how your specific system is setup
you may need to dial '9' or another number
before the telephone number in order to access an outside line
You can also dial numbers from your list of contacts
Simply press the 'contacts' button to display a list
of your saved contacts
scroll up and down using the navigation wheel
then pick up the handset or press 'OK'
to dial the highlighted contact
To hang up the call simply replace the handset
or press the 'Drop' feature button
You can also filter the list by pressing the left and right
keys on the navigation wheel
This will cycle through:
Your personal contacts
Your external contacts
Your internal contacts
Groups, as set by your administrator
And returning back to the full un-filtered list
Within any of those filters you can search for
a specific contact by simply keying in their name
To call a previously dialed number simply press the 'history' button
A list of the 10 previously dialed numbers is displayed
Using the navigation wheel, scroll to your desired contact then
pick up the handset or press 'OK' to dial the highlighted contact
You can also filter the list by pressing the left and right keys
on the navigation wheel
This will cycle through:
Missed calls
Incoming calls
Outgoing calls
And returning back to the full, un-filtered list
If an incoming call is placed to your extension
the phone will display a visual indication
and will audibly ring
Simply lift the handset press the 'speaker' button
or if you have an optional headset attached
press the 'headset' button to commence the call
If you are unable to take the call you can either
divert the call to voicemail by pressing the
'Divert to VM' feature button or silence the ringing
by pressing the 'Ignore' feature button
The caller will continue to hear their call ring and will not receive
any indication that you are aware of the incoming call
If you are already on a call and receive another call
the phone will briefly ring and visually indicate the new call
using an available selection button
Selecting the new call will automatically put the old call on hold
Alternatively, using the navigation wheel to highlight the call you can:
Divert the incoming call to voicemail
Ignore the call
Or hang up on the call
While on an active phone call you can adjust the volume of
the other party using the volume buttons
To mute the call, ensuring that the other party cannot hear you but
still allowing you to hear the other party simply press the mute button
To end the call either replace the handset or
press the 'Drop' feature button
To transfer a call already in progress simply press the 'Transfer' feature button
The active call is placed on hold while you connect to the new party
Simply dial the extension or press '9' and dial an outside number
Alternatively you can select a contact from your contact list
You can complete the transfer as soon as the line begins to ring
by pressing the 'Complete' feature button
Alternatively you can wait until the new party picks up the phone
before completing the transfer
If you do not wish to complete the transfer simply press the 'Cancel' feature button
You can also transfer the call directly to the voicemail service of any extension
While on the call
Simply press the 'Messages' button then dial the extension
of the desired party then press the 'Select' feature button
There are two ways to redirect your incoming calls to another phone
using either the 'Follow me to' option or the 'Follow me here' option
The 'Follow me to' option is used if you are at your desk, prior to moving
Simply press the 'Features' feature button then
using the navigation wheel select 'Forward'
then select 'Follow me to'
Enter the extension where the calls will be forwarded to then
press the 'Save' feature button
The 'Follow me here' option is used if you are at the desk
that you are visiting.
Simply press the 'Features' feature button then
using the navigation wheel select 'Forward'
Then select 'Follow me here'
Enter your extension then press the 'Save' feature button
You can disable call forwarding from either handset by going to
the 'Follow me to' menu item on your own handset
or 'Follow me here' from the visiting handset
and pressing the 'Clear' feature button
Your phone can be set to 'Do Not Disturb' mode
to disable incoming calls
Simply press the 'DND' selection button
to activate or deactivate the mode
All incoming calls will be directed to voicemail
or if you do not have a voice mail account
will be given a busy signal
To check your voicemail messages simply press the 'Messages' button
If requested enter your voicemail password
then press the 'Done' feature button
The 'Listen' option can be used to hear new, old, and saved messages
Highlight it using the navigation wheel then press 'Ok'
Then, select the message you would like to hear
You can use the feature buttons while the message is playing to:
Pause or Play the message
Or call back the person who left the voicemail
Pressing the 'More' feature button enables you to:
Delete the message
Save the message preventing it from
automatically being deleted after a system specific period of time
or copy and send the message to another extension
You can also temporarily disable the voice message service
from picking up your calls
This will not affect your mailbox only whether it picks up your calls
Simply press the 'Message' button and using the navigation wheel
scroll to 'Voicemail' then use the 'Change' feature button
to disable or enable voicemail
Remember to press 'Save' or your changes will be ignored
